Do-it-yourself gas burners for soldering: instructions for making from improvised means. Do-it-yourself gas burner for soldering How to make a do-it-yourself gas burner dimensions

For do-it-yourself soldering? At home, it often becomes necessary to solder metal parts with your own hands. As a matter of fact, the whole procedure for performing this work is simple. But very often a situation arises when a gas burner is not at hand. What to do? You can, of course, quickly go to a special store and buy everything you need. But you can make the device yourself.

Soldering with a gas burner is considered very high quality and quite simple.

Do-it-yourself homemade propane burner is made quickly enough. Of course, in terms of power, a home-made device will be weaker than an industrial counterpart. Soldering large structures with its help will not work, but it is quite possible to perform minor repairs and simple types of work with its help.

What materials and tools will be required?

  • brass pipes;
  • brass blanks that will be required in order to make dividers and nozzles;
  • plates made of a material resistant to high temperatures (in the absence of them, you can take wooden bars);
  • vise;
  • drill;
  • sealant (FUM tape or silicone sealant);
  • reducer;
  • connecting hoses.

Stages of work on the manufacture of the device

Soldering with a gas burner must be done very carefully, at a maximum temperature of 700 degrees.

First you need to make a handle and nozzle.

To do this, you need to attach a handle to the brass tube. As a consumable, you can use the handle from an old soldering iron. If not, then a wooden block is quite suitable. In a wooden block, you need to drill a hole, the diameter of which will correspond to the diameter of the tube. After that, you need to attach the product to the tube. This will require epoxy or silicone. At the last stage, the device is given the most compact form, the handle should lie comfortably in the hand.

The manufacture of the nozzle is the most critical stage. The most preferred nozzle size is approximately 0.1 mm. However, using home tools, it is almost impossible to achieve such accuracy. For this reason, most often it is made a little wider, and the edges are adjusted to the desired size. This work must be done very carefully, this stage will take a lot of time.

It is most convenient to use a vice. Therefore, the workpiece is fixed in a vice, and then it is struck with a hammer. You need to strike vertically, slightly pulling them to the central part of the workpiece.

It should be noted that all work is performed in a circular direction. This is important so that there are no deviations in the gas supply.

After chasing is completed, the nozzle head is sanded with fine sandpaper. Threading is made from the back of the nozzle, which is needed in order to make a connection with the tube.

The most common way to connect a nozzle to a tube is by soldering. This method has a small but significant disadvantage. If it is necessary to repair or replace parts, this will be extremely difficult.

This completes the manufacture of the propane burner. In order to start working with it, you just need to connect all the parts, connect the gas cylinder and light the burner.

But here's where things get a bit tricky. Since there will be a need to adjust the gas flow. If you do not improve the regulation of the flame, then the only way is to regulate it with a tap that is installed on the gas cylinder. However, with this method, maximum flame power cannot be achieved. What can be done? Refurbish the burner.

Burner retrofit

As additional regulators, you will need a crane and a divider. Moreover, you can install the tap on the burner itself or on the tube that is connected to it.

The most comfortable position is close to the handle (2-4 cm above the handle is enough). The crane can be "borrowed" from the old autogen. It is fixed on the tube directly at the junction. Silicone or FUM tape is used as a sealant.

For the manufacture of the divider, brass is required. The best for this is a cylindrical blank, which has a hole for the supply pipe, as well as a parallel hole with a smaller diameter.

When mounting on a tube, it is necessary that the edges of the workpiece are located at a distance of 2-3 mm forward in relation to the edges of the nozzle.

Such a design will allow solving two problems at the same time: the protective function (crosswind will not blow out the flame), the oxygen supply will be stable.

It can be made easier. Such a design is rather complicated, so the divider can be somewhat simplified. To do this, you can use a brass tube, which has a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the tube.

Fastening is carried out on the tube in parallel. With this design, air will enter due to the fact that a region of lower pressure will form at the outlet of the gas nozzle, therefore, according to the laws of physics, air will be directed to this part of the structure.

According to the principle of work, a homemade product can be compared with a primus stove used by tourists. The only difference is the size and type of fuel. At the same time, it is not necessary to create excess pressure, it is already in the gas cylinder. A gas burner will require propane or a mixture of propane and butane to operate. Do-it-yourself burner is easy to do. If you make it in this way, then it will be strong, reliable and will last you a very long time.

Almost every man had a need to solder metal at home. The process itself is easy. The only obstacle is that the home master does not always have the equipment for this process. There is a gas cylinder, but there is no special burner for this. Let's try to do without autogen and make a simple burner for soldering. It should be noted right away that it will not give the same powerful flame stream as its industrial counterpart. This means that you will not be able to weld heavy structures. But you can solder simple products or repair small metal structures.

A gas burner for soldering and repairing small metal structures is useful in any household.

Necessary materials and tools

To make a burner you will need:

  • brass tube;
  • brass blanks for the manufacture of a divider and nozzle;
  • plates of any heat-resistant material (wooden bars can be used);
  • vise;
  • electric drill;
  • sealing FUM tape (or silicone);
  • gas reducer;
  • connecting hoses.

How to make a pen and nozzle?

The design of a homemade gas burner and the connection diagram to the cylinder.

First, a handle must be attached to the brass tube. For this, they usually use either a handle from an old soldering iron, or a longitudinal hole is drilled in an ordinary wooden block with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the brass tube itself. Next, the handle is attached to the tube using epoxy or silicone. It is given a form convenient for you.

Especially carefully it is necessary to approach the manufacture of the nozzle. It is desirable that the nozzle opening be about 0.1 mm. It is impossible to drill such a hole at home, therefore a wider one is made, and its edges are minted to the required size. This work is very accurate, so it will take you a lot of time. For the reliability of all actions, the workpiece is fixed in a vise and struck with a hammer vertically with a slight “pull” to the center.

The whole procedure is carried out in a circle to avoid deviation of the direction of gas supply in the future. After embossing, the nozzle head is processed with fine sandpaper. On the reverse side of the nozzle, a thread is made for connection to the inlet pipe. Soldering is often used to connect the nozzle and tube. Note that this is far from the best connection method: if necessary, it will be very difficult to repair or replace the nozzle.

How to improve flame regulation?

In general, the described version of the manufacture of the burner can be considered already completed: your unit will work, you just need to connect everything together, open the gas cylinder tap and ignite the gas. But only inconveniences will go further, since it will be possible to regulate the gas flow only with a gas cylinder valve, and you will not achieve the maximum flame power. The burner needs to be equipped with a crane and a divider. The valve can be mounted both on the burner itself and on the inlet pipe. It is more convenient when it is in the immediate vicinity of the handle (2-4 cm higher). The crane can be used from an old autogen burner or another analogue. It is better to permanently fix it on the tube to the threaded connection, sealing it with FUM tape.

The divider is made of brass. The best option is a cylindrical blank with a hole for the inlet pipe and parallel holes of a smaller diameter. Such a blank is attached to the tube in such a way that its edges protrude 2-3 mm forward from the edge of the nozzle. Such a small device will do two things: it will protect the flame from crosswinds and provide the flow of oxygen necessary to maintain a stable flame.

How to simplify the divider?

To equip the divider, it is not necessary to make such a complex structure. A brass tube, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the diameter of the supply tube, is also quite suitable. Such a tip must be fixed on the tube parallel to it. The air flow will be provided due to the fact that the gas leaving the nozzle will create a zone of low pressure, respectively, the air flow will rush into this area on its own.

The principle of operation will be the same as that of a conventional tourist stove. The difference between a home-made stove and a primus stove is that it is much smaller and uses gas instead of gasoline as a fuel. And the gas burner does not require the creation of excess pressure inside the gas container, since it is already present.

A homemade burner is completely unpretentious to the composition of the gas: it works both on pure propane and on a propane-butane mixture. The difference will be felt only in the rate of heating of the material during the soldering period. But even this moment can be leveled by adjusting the gas supply.

Do you want to learn how to make a burner with your own hands at home? I offer 2 instructions at once: assembling a conventional burner for laying roofing materials and making a high-temperature cutter. Having made tools according to the proposed schemes, you can heat roofing bitumen, melt tin and cut fusible metals.

  • Gas-burner(acetylene or propane) is a tool with which you can get a flame with a variable flame temperature and flame size;

  • conventional propane torch- this is a nozzle with a regulator connected to a gas supply under pressure;
  • Acetylene torch- This is a cutter for which an oxy-fuel mixture is used.

Using gas under pressure as a fuel, it will not be possible to obtain a high temperature. But, if you mix propane with oxygen, the temperature of the flame increases significantly.

The figure shows two types of burners:

  1. Injection- due to the higher pressure, oxygen sucks in the gas and directs it to the mixer;
  2. Injectorless- oxygen and gas are supplied separately, but with the same pressure.

Non-injector cutters are structurally simpler than injector burners. But injection cutters, due to the high pressure of the fuel mixture, are used in welding and cutting metals.

There is also an infrared gas burner, but it does not apply to cutting tools, but to heaters. The heating element for uniform distribution of heat is located with the emitter to the top and transforms thermal energy into infrared radiation. Adjustment of temperature and intensity of heating is carried out by a tuning valve.

We assemble a burner for laying roofing felt in 10 minutes

For assembly you will need:

  • Nozzle and faucet from an old gas stove (both parts can be bought on the construction market. The price is cheap);
  • gas cylinder(you can get by with a camping cylinder with a volume of 10-20 liters);
  • Connecting hose with slip-on clamps.
Illustration Stage description

Connecting the nozzle to the faucet. We connect the valve through the nozzle to the nozzle.

We connect the gas cylinder to the burner with a hose. The connections must be tightened with collar clamps.

Trial run. With the tap on the burner closed, open the supply from the cylinder. We bring a lit match to the nozzle and open the gas supply valve.

Torch adjustment. The flame flow is regulated by turning the valve: counterclockwise - more, clockwise - less.

A home-made gas burner is no worse than a purchased tool in terms of efficiency and safety of use. I am sure that the tool, assembled according to the proposed instructions, will be useful to you.

Assembling a portable cutter for the home workshop

This compact tool, despite its low power, gives a flame with temperatures up to +1000°C. To make a gas burner at home, we need the following materials:

  • Pumping needle for inflating balls;
  • A thin needle from a disposable syringe;
  • Plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5-2 liters;
  • Two sets of droppers with clips;
  • Copper wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm;
  • Flux and accessories for soldering;
  • Nipple from a bicycle or car camera;
  • Hot glue and gun.

The wiring diagram shows a portable torchless torch. Next, I’ll tell you how to make a tool with your own hands according to the proposed scheme.

Illustration Stage description

Making a hole in the needle. Stepping back from the end of the needle 10 mm, we make a transverse incision with a triangular file, so that a small hole forms.

We bend the needle. The needle from the syringe, with the help of pliers, is bent at an angle of 135 °.

We try to work carefully so as not to pinch or deform the through channel in the needle

We grind the sharp edge of the needle. We grind the curved needle on a file or grindstone, so that there is no point left.

The length of the needle section from the fold to the ground end should be equal to the length from the end of the thick needle to the hole made in it.

We connect the needles in one knot. A thin bent needle is pushed into the hole. As a result, the end of a thin needle should protrude from a thick needle by no more than 1 mm.

Winding copper wire. The area where the thin needle enters through the side hole into the thick needle is wound with copper wire. We make the winding turns as close as possible to each other.

Flux processing. We process the winding made with flux before soldering. Do not use rosin, as when working with flux, the solder sticks better.

Soldering. We solder the wire winding with tin solder. We heat the turns with a soldering iron so that the solder passes to the needle. As a result, the soldered area of \u200b\u200bthe connection of the needles must be completely sealed.

We connect the assembled mixer. We connect 2 dropper tubes to the previously assembled assembly. One tube is connected to a thin needle and the other to a thick needle. On the dropper tubes, next to the mixer, we put on clamps, one for each tube.

We fix the clamps. We glue the clamps together with hot glue, so that the adjusting rollers are located on the outside.

Glued clips can be color coded. For example, the clamp that is responsible for the tube connected to the thick needle will regulate the gas supply. This clip can be marked in red. The second clamp, which will shut off the air supply, can be marked in blue

Joint sealing. We glue the soldering area and the dropper connection areas with hot glue. Thus, we will ensure the tightness of all connections.

We pass the dropper tube through the plastic cap. A hole is drilled in the cork of a can for refilling lighters according to the diameter of the dropper tube. A tube is threaded into the hole.

We connect the handset. One of the nozzles that comes with the gas cartridge is tightly inserted into the tube.

We pull the dropper tube through the stopper. We do this so that the nozzle fixed on the tube rests against the opposite side of the cork.

We apply sealant. We seal and strengthen the connection with hot glue. Now, if you put the cork on the cylinder, the nozzle will press on the fitting and the gas supply will begin.

Installing the compressed air connection. At the bottom of a plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5-2 liters, we fix a metal pipe with a check valve.

As a pipe, you can use a nipple from an old bicycle or car camera.

Installing the burner connector. We attach a connecting pipe to the cork of the bottle to connect the dropper from the burner.

The burner, receiver and connecting hoses are ready, it remains to connect all the elements together.

We connect the tube from the cap of the gas cartridge to a thick needle. We connect the tube from the receiver bottle to a thin needle.

We attach the pump to the receiver nipple and pump up 2-3 atmospheres. If there is no pressure gauge on the pump, pump according to the sensations. We put a cap with a tube on the gas cylinder.

The do-it-yourself burner is assembled and ready for use. How to use it?

  • We loosen the clamp on the gas supply;
  • Ignite the gas from the end of the needle;
  • Gradually loosening the clamp with air, we get the same flame as in the photo.

In this article, we will look at how a do-it-yourself gas burner for soldering is made. This device is often in demand both in the private sector and for commercial purposes - for individual technical creativity and various construction tasks. In particular, with the help of gas burners soldering, plumbing and blacksmithing, roofing, jewelry work is carried out, and flames are obtained for other purposes, the temperature of which exceeds 1500 ° C.

In plumbing, using a gas burner, you can heat a metal blank so that in the end it turns out to be sufficiently hardened. When carrying out welding work with some metals, the places of future seams must be warmed up.

Parameters for making a soldering torch

First, the device must be made of refractory metals. With a properly adjusted burner, temperatures in excess of 1000°C can be achieved.
Secondly, the burner must be equipped with a reliable working valve that, in the event of a dangerous situation, will shut off the gas supply.
Thirdly, you need to use a reliable connection to a tank with a valve or a 5-liter propane tank with a reducer, which will eliminate the risk of accidents.

Below is a typical diagram and principle of operation of an injection gas burner:

Gas is supplied under pressure through the hose (1) - usually propane. When the liquefied gas in the cylinder evaporates, pressure is created - enough to provide a stable directional flame. Here, a reducer is not needed; a working valve (2) is used to adjust the volume of gas.
The jet enters through the supply tube (3) to the nozzle, and to the nipple (6), which sets the direction of the fire, which is located in the insert (5). This liner mixes gas and air. In the nozzle, the screw fixes the liner. The burner is collapsible, so the nipple can be cleaned.
From the liner, the mixture of air and gas is fed into the nozzle of the nozzle (8). There, oxygen further saturates the mixture. With the ventilation holes (7) stable combustion is achieved.

With these dimensions, the burner is designed for cylinders up to 5 liters.
How the liner is arranged - we will consider separately, the dimensions are shown in the drawing:

The inner diameter of the liner tube (1) must be 0.5 mm smaller than the inner diameter of the nozzle. A washer (2) with air holes is welded inside. The sleeve (2) fixes the tube with the nipple.

The design is different in that when the tab is moved in the nozzle, it is possible to adjust the suction of air through the ventilation holes - and as a result, adjust the temperature of the fire in a wide range.

Making a gas burner from scrap materials: step by step

List of materials and tools:
drill;
Bulgarian;
hammer;
sandpaper;
blanks made of brass for the nozzle of the divider;
thin brass tube with a diameter of 15 mm;
wooden bars;
vise;
silicone sealant or FUM tape;
hoses for connection;
valve for adjustment.

How to make a nozzle and a handle

First of all, we take a brass tube and attach a handle to it - for example, from an old burner, or from a wooden block, having processed it before that. In the bar, we drill a hole for a brass tube with the appropriate diameter. Putting the tube into the timber, we fix it with silicone or epoxy.

Important! To make it more convenient to work, we bend the brass tube above the handle at an angle of 45˚.

Next, we proceed to a more time-consuming and lengthy stage of work - the manufacture of the nozzle. The hole size should preferably be 0.1 mm.

With a drill, you can make a slightly larger hole, and then adjust the edges to 0.1 mm. The hole must have the correct shape so that the flame is even.

After that, we fix the workpiece in a vise, take a hammer and carefully, in a vertical plane with a “branch” to the middle of the workpiece, strike the future nozzle. We evenly scroll the product to form an ideal hole.

Then we take sandpaper with fine grit and skin the nozzle head. To connect to the tube, a thread is applied to the back of the product, and the elements can also be simply soldered - but in the future the repair of parts will be more difficult.

Now we attach the device to the gas cylinder and set it on fire - the do-it-yourself burner is ready to go. However, here you can see that to adjust the gas flow, you can only open and close the valve of the gas cylinder, and in this way it is very difficult to obtain the desired flame. What we can do?

How to improve flame control

For the normal operation of our home-made unit, we will install a divider and a crane on it. It is better to mount the faucet near the handle, at a distance of about 2–4 cm, but it can also be mounted on the inlet pipe. As an option, take a burner tap from an old autogen or another similar tap that is threaded. To seal the connection, we take the FUM tape.

The divider is installed on a pipe with a nozzle, it is made of brass, diameter 15 mm. The best option is a cylindrical part, where there is a hole for a tube with a nozzle.
If it doesn't exist, do this:
1. We take a brass pipe with a diameter of 35 mm and cut off a piece of 100–150 mm.
2. We take a marker, step back from the end and mark 3-5 points, with an equal distance between them.
3. We drill holes of 8–10 mm in the pipe, take a grinder and evenly make cuts to them.
4. We bend everything to the center and weld it to the burner pipe.

For proper fixation of the divider, we place it in such a way that the nozzle protrudes 2-3 mm from the junction. Due to such a device, the flame will be protected from strong winds, and will also be fed by a flow of oxygen and maintain a stable and strong combustion.
We smooth all welding places with a grinder - so our unit will have a more presentable appearance. Now the burner is ready! We bring gas to it and you can get to work.

Do-it-yourself burner: video

In a home workshop or garage, there is often a need to use a gas burner. The application for it is the widest - from soldering to roof repair. Not to mention the need to heat up the metal part for processing.

During locksmith work on metal, a gas burner can heat the workpiece for the purpose of subsequent hardening. If you are engaged in electric welding, when working with some metals, it is necessary to warm up the place of the future seam.

Tool stores sell a variety of tools for safe work with fire. A propane burner can be of any size and any configuration. The size of a ballpoint pen for jewelry soldering.

Or m Nozzle rail for bitumen heating on the roof:

The advantage of industrial options is the safety certificate. However, there is nothing in the design that cannot be repeated at home. Since any product in the store costs a lot of money, we will tell you how to make a gas burner with your own hands.

Important! Homemade devices for working with fire carry a potential hazard. Therefore, a propane burner manufactured without technical expertise is operated at your own peril and risk.

Drawings and step-by-step instructions for making a burner

Let's take a closer look at the nuances that you should pay attention to when making a burner.

  • First of all, it is necessary to use refractory metals. A properly adjusted burner can produce up to 1000 ° C, so the nozzle must match the temperature of the flame;
  • It is important to choose a reliable working crane. If something goes wrong, the gas supply is first of all shut off, and the danger is eliminated. If the tap skips, you will not be able to quickly extinguish the flame;
  • The connection to the gas source (canister with valve or 5 liter propane tank with reducer) must be reliable. It is during the operation of low-quality shutoff valves that most accidents occur.
