    How to make your own vibrator for concrete

    A vibrator suitable for home construction can be made on the basis of a powerful electric drill or hammer drill. A steel cable should be used as a flexible drive. To assemble the vibration nozzle, you will need the following parts:

    • a piece of stainless steel tube 50 cm long, with an outer diameter of 55 mm, and a wall thickness of 1.5 mm;
    • roller bearings with an outer diameter of 52 mm, for example, grades 12304 or NF304 with dimensions of 52x20x15 mm - 2 pcs;
    • metal circle 55 cm long, 20 mm in diameter;
    • metal square rod 40 cm long and 2.5 cm sides;
    • iron cap with an inner diameter of 55 mm for plugging the end side of the tube;
    • steel cable with a diameter of 15 mm and a length of up to 1 m with welded ends;
    • a sleeve made of PVC tube with an inner diameter of 55 mm and a length equal to the length of the cable.

    To get a working shaft - an eccentric, you need to weld a square bar to a metal round rod along the entire length, stepping back from one end of at least 15 mm as a seat for the bearing. Next, assemble the unit in the following order:

    1. insert the working shaft into a stainless tube and hammer bearings filled with grease from both ends. They should enter tightly without distortions and be completely inside the tube. As a result, the shaft should turn freely by hand, not protrude beyond the body from the working end;
    2. plug the working end of the tube with a lid, putting it on epoxy glue or sealant;
    3. at the free end of the shaft, drill a hole in the center with a depth and diameter of 15 mm. To strengthen the cable in this hole, you need to drill another hole perpendicular to the axis of the shaft at a distance of 7 mm from its end with a diameter of 4 mm and cut a thread for the clamping screw there. Fasten one end of the rope to the shaft with a clamping screw;
    4. put a PVC hose (sleeve) on the cable and the open end of the tube. It should be worn tight and tight and with some margin of 5-6 cm overlap the junction. You can strengthen the connection of the sleeve with the tube using a clamp;
    5. fasten the other end of the cable in the drill chuck. After that, the tool is ready to work. To protect the body of the vibrator from chemically aggressive cement mortar, the action of which only increases under the influence of vibration, you can put on a rubber or plastic cover on it.

To the latter, the connection is made through a bolt and a head according to its dimensions. The junction is hidden by the second part of the pipe from the tip.     From an unnecessary electric motor

    The whole secret is to securely attach the tow rope, which will transmit torque to the eccentric in the vibrating tip. To do this, it is necessary to drill two holes in the protruding part of the drive shaft: insert the cable into one, and the bolt into the other, with which this cable will be fixed. Now this part must be protected from dirt and moisture in order to avoid damage to the cable and drive. Make a kind of casing from a pipe of a suitable diameter, making several longitudinal cuts on one of its sides and shaping it into a cone shape. The gaps will subsequently need to be welded. Put a strong thick-walled hose on the casing, inside of which there will be a rotating cable. The hose is fixed with a clamp connection.

    Make an eccentric and fasten it to the cable in the same way that the cable was connected to the drive shaft. Use a pipe of the required diameter with one soldered end as the body of the vibrotip. Place two bearings and an eccentric inside the pipe, weld a protective cover on the other end.

    It is also possible to adapt an ordinary drill to compact the concrete mixture, which will serve as a much-needed drive. The power of the drill will determine how long the flexible shaft can be made. A diagram of such a device is shown in the figure below.


    To transmit torque in homemade vibrators for concrete, a tow cable is traditionally used. If the length of the shaft does not matter, then a steel rod can also be used, at the end of which unbalances are welded. Fix the cable to the drill with a chuck. Use a rigid hose of a suitable diameter, inside which this cable will rotate, securing it to the drill with a clamp. Attach an eccentric to the other end of the cable. For these purposes, drill a couple of holes in it, in one of which place the cable, in the other - a bolt to fix it.

    Now it remains to make the body of the vibrator tip and our homemade deep vibrator will be ready. Make the body out of two parts: take a pipe of a suitable diameter, plug it on one side, insert a pair of bearings and an eccentric as in the diagram above. Protect the junction of the cable with the eccentric with a casing made from a pipe cut, as shown in the previous example. Weld the two parts of the mace and connect the tip to the flexible shaft shell.

    It is no secret that concrete becomes truly durable only after the painstaking work of the builders. In hot weather, he needs protection from drying out, in winter, insulation and electrical heating. But the building codes require the use of a deep vibrator for concrete at any time of the year when pouring massive structures (foundations, columns, ceilings).     Why do you need a deep vibrator?

    The structure of freshly prepared concrete (granulometric composition) is very heterogeneous. It contains large gravel and fine sand, cement milk, water and air. If you just "plunk" the concrete mixture into the formwork, nothing good will come of it. Air pockets will reduce the strength of hardened concrete, and crushed stone and sand need compact packaging.

    The construction vibrator makes the concrete mix flowable by setting its solid particles in motion. As a result, air is squeezed out to the surface, and the filler is evenly distributed inside the structure.

    How does a concrete vibrator work?

    The key condition for creating vibrational oscillations is an eccentric shaft rotated at high frequency. In a deep vibrator, it is located in a mace (vibrating tip) - a massive steel cylinder fixed at the end of a flexible shaft. The motor rotates the vibrating shaft through a steel cable covered with a plastic or rubber sheath.

    Working with a deep vibrator is easy. Having immersed the vibrator head in fresh concrete, the device is turned on and the mixture is compacted until it stops settling in the formwork. After that, the tool is alternately immersed in adjacent sections of concrete, repeating the workflow.

    The first indicator that you need to pay attention to when choosing a deep vibrator is power. The time of continuous operation of the tool depends on it.     The second operating parameter is the vibration frequency of the tip.     The second indicator is the weight of the device. For private construction, a manual electric vibrocompactor is optimal. You can work with it without an assistant. This tool takes up minimal storage space and is easy to transport.

    Despite affordable prices, many craftsmen try to make a vibrator for concrete with their own hands. The simplest method is to adapt a construction hammer for vibrocompaction. It cannot be called very effective, but such a device at a construction site will bring some benefit.

    The idea of ​​​​the alteration is to install a standard peak with a metal thrust plate welded to it on a 1.5-2 kilowatt puncher. To vibrate concrete, the plate is applied to the formwork and the tool is switched on in the impact mode. The pushes of the lance through the formwork are transferred to the concrete. For deep compaction, the peak is immersed in concrete and “bayoneted” it, periodically raising and lowering the perforator. Obviously, only concrete, the thickness of which is equal to the length of a steel rod, can be compacted with such a primitive mechanism.

    For deeper compaction, craftsmen create home-made vibrating nozzles for drills, grinders, hammers and lawn mowers. The basis of such structures is a steel pipe in which a self-made eccentric shaft is mounted on bearings. Through a coupling, it is attached to a flexible steel cable rotated by an engine.

    • The tip of the tool must be inserted into the concrete vertically, without horizontal movement.
    • The distance between the injection points must not exceed 5 vibrator head diameters.
    • The duration of compaction depends on the power of the tool and the consistency of the concrete mix. The optimal cycle time is from 10 to 20 seconds (vibration is stopped at the moment the cement laitance appears on the concrete).
    • The vibrotip during operation should not touch the reinforcement and formwork.
    • The vibrator is removed slowly, with oscillatory movements up and down. This is necessary to prevent air from entering fresh concrete.
