How to carve a jack lantern from a pumpkin. Sinister Halloween Pumpkin - How to Make Jack's Lantern. Pumpkins - black cats, bats, owls

Although the Celtic monks have long made lamps from vegetables, usually it was rutabaga, beets and turnips to drive out evil spirits, the tradition of lighting a pumpkin lantern is owed to the inhabitants of North America. They were the first to use pumpkin and made it one of the main attributes of the most "terrible" holiday.

Classic Halloween Pumpkin

Traditionally, the pumpkin lantern is carved in the form of a fearsome head. Americans call him Jack-Lantern. It appeared thanks to an old legend about an old farmer named Jack. This man was lazy, dishonest and very fond of drinking. In doing so, he twice managed to deceive the devil. After his death, there was no place for Jack in heaven or hell. Looking for a way in the darkness, the farmer asked the devil for a lamp, but he threw him only a few embers. Jack had to make a lantern out of a pumpkin and put embers in it. With him, he began to wander in search of peace between earth and heaven.

Making a pumpkin for Halloween with your own hands is not so difficult.

  1. To keep your pumpkin decor fresh for a long time, soak the vegetable in water for several hours.
  2. To make the pattern last longer, it should be covered with vegetable oil or petroleum jelly.
  3. To prevent the pumpkin lamp from roasting from the inside, make several small holes in the lid of the vegetable - the streams of hot air will come out.
  4. If you rub the inside of the lantern with nutmeg, it will release a pleasant aroma after ignition.
  5. Try to pick fresh pumpkin for the lantern. The fruit does not have a very hard skin, so it will be easier for you to cut patterns on it.

Lamp manufacturing

Take a pumpkin, its size can be different, but the color is only orange. Draw a circle, square, or zigzag around her stem. The size of the figure should be large in order to free the vegetable from the pulp. Using a thin knife, cut the fruit along the marked lines. Do this at a slight angle so that the cut off tip does not fall into the inside of the lantern.

Use a spoon to scoop out the pulp and seeds from the vegetable. With a felt-tip pen, draw the outlines of the eyes, mouth and nose for the fetus - the mouth is often made in the form of a crescent moon with a pair of fangs, the eyes and nose are in the form of triangles. If you have a stencil, you should attach it to the vegetable with tape, and then transfer the outline of the drawing by piercing the lines with a thin awl or needle. Cut the skin along the marked lines.

You can remove the cut pieces by prying with a knife, or push inward. To make the contour look beautiful, scrape off the protruding pulp with a knife. Remove the cut pieces from the fruit, place the candle inside and cover it with a "lid". Halloween pumpkin is ready.

Original pumpkin ideas

It is not necessary for Halloween to be limited only to Jack the Lantern. The house can be decorated with other pumpkin crafts. This fruit is a wonderful material for creativity. You can create many unusual decor items from it.

Modern pumpkin

If you don't really like the sinister face, you can decorate the vegetable in a more modern way. For example, using rivets.

This pumpkin is easy to make. Purchase a few packs of rivets from your art store or clothing store. They need to be stuck in a row so that they run parallel to the stripes of the fruit. So you need to decorate the whole pumpkin.

Another unusual Halloween pumpkin, the photo of which is presented above, is also simple to create. You will need acrylic paints in contrasting colors. They need to color the peel through the section.

Elegant lamp

Option 1

In addition to its direct purpose, such a lamp can act as a vase.

You will need:

  • drill and drills of different sizes;
  • glow sticks - plastic tubes that can glow for a while after breaking or wireless LED lights;
  • pumpkin;
  • scotch tape or electrical tape;
  • glass cup or jar;
  • large knife;
  • flowers;
  • scissors.

Use a marker or felt-tip pen to outline the pattern with which you plan to decorate the fruit. It should consist of holes of different diameters. They are best done using various checks. To make the pattern come out symmetrical, use electrical tape. When all the holes have been drilled, use a knife to cut off the top of the vegetable at an angle and scoop out its contents with a spoon.

If you want to decorate the pumpkin with flowers, place a jar or glass filled with water inside it. Place sticks or lanterns around the container to illuminate.

Option 2

To make such a lamp, skill is required.

You will need:

  • pumpkin;
  • screwdriver;
  • chisel for cutting linoleum;
  • nail or awl;
  • pattern pattern;
  • masking tape;
  • spoon;
  • candles.

Cut a hole in the bottom of the fruit and then use a spoon to remove the pulp along with the seeds. After that, attach the template to the vegetable with masking tape and pierce it with a nail or awl in accordance with the lines of the drawing. The holes should be next to each other.

When the drawing is transferred to the fruit, take a chisel and carefully, trying not to cut through the flesh too much, cut the peel along the puncture lines. After that, completely remove the peel, but note that the holes should not be through. In this case, the light from the candle will not be bright, but matte.

To provide ventilation, and at the same time a beautiful view, use a screwdriver or drill to drill several through holes in the vegetable. The original pumpkin is ready!

Glowing pumpkin

These pumpkins will look beautiful when the lights are off.

You will need:

  • fluorescent neon paints in different colors;
  • several pumpkins;

Peel the surface of the vegetable. Starting at the stem, draw thin vertical stripes, then draw stripes of a different color next to them.

The lines do not have to be neat, they can be pulled down to the bottom of the fruit or brought to the middle. You do not need to paint over the entire surface of the vegetable. You can add other designs this way. The pumpkin can be coated with acrylic paint of any desired shade before painting.

Pumpkin candlestick

Candlesticks like these, depending on how you decorate them, can be a beautiful fall decor or a worthy Halloween decoration.

You will need:

  • small pumpkin;
  • brush;
  • drill;
  • candle;
  • sequins;
  • universal glue.

Measure the diameter of the spark plug and select the correct diameter hole saw. Cut off the stem of the fruit, define the middle and carefully drill out the core. From time to time, peeling the pulp from the drill, drill the vegetable to the required depth. If you don't have such a tool, you can get by with a sharp, thin-bladed knife.

When the hole is ready, cover the fruit with glue and sprinkle generously with glitter. Once dry, spray with hairspray to keep the glitter from sprinkling. Now place the candle in the hole.

Spooky Pumpkin Ideas

For those who are sure that you need to scare someone on Halloween, we suggest making scary crafts out of a pumpkin.

Spooky Pumpkin

This is a variation on the Jack Lantern theme. This Halloween pumpkin will impress your friends and family. To make it, you need 2 pumpkins - large and small.

Let's start with the big fruit. Cut off its top, do it at an angle, so that later the "lid" does not fall through. Spoon all the pulp and seeds with a spoon. After that, apply the drawing as in the photo. The opening of the "mouth" should be large enough to accommodate the smaller pumpkin.

Cut out the mouth along the contour and select the teeth. The latter should be polished a little.

You can start making eyes. Make the pupils - they will give the craft a more intimidating look.

Now take the small pumpkin. She needs to be made scared. It is better to remove the pulp from the fruit through the mouth, so it should be large. When the small pumpkin is done, insert it into your large mouth.

Pumpkin - bat

Halloween symbols are evil spirits, including bats. So why not craft it from another traditional attribute - pumpkin, these sinister creatures.

You will need:

  • black acrylic paint;
  • white cardboard;
  • small pumpkin;
  • black paper.

Cover the surface of the pumpkin with paint. While it dries, craft the eyes, ears, and wings. Cut out the eyes from white cardboard. Make pupils out of black paper and glue them in the center of the cardboard eye blanks.

Draw the pattern for the wings and ears. Apply them to black paper and cut out four identical shapes. Fold 2 shapes together and glue them, first placing part of a toothpick inside. For the wings, you can use skewers or stiff wire.

Glue the eyes to the surface of the pumpkin, then stick the ears into its upper part, and not far from them the wings.

Paper pumpkin

Not everyone has the ability or desire to tinker with a real pumpkin. The house can be decorated with a paper pumpkin.

Option 1

Cut out blanks of green and orange paper, as shown in the photo. Sizes can be different, depending on what size you want the pumpkin to be. Take a rectangular piece - the middle of the fruit, bend it so that the cylinder comes out, and glue it. Bend all the teeth outward.

Apply glue to the lower and upper teeth of the cylinder. Glue one of the long strips to the teeth. Glue the rest of the strips in the same way.

Take 2 green pieces and make serifs on them, cutting one piece from bottom to middle and the other from top to middle. Connect the parts. Glue the tail to one side of the pumpkin.

Option 2

You will need:

  • orange paper;
  • thin green ribbon;
  • thin wire;
  • needle;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • glue;
  • pliers.

Make a template corresponding to the figure below, and use it to cut blanks out of orange paper.

Bend each segment slightly inward, and then do the same with their round parts.

Gather the round ends of the bottoms together and thread the sharp end of the wire through the hole.

Glue the first and last segment, then slide the upper round pieces onto the wire and round the end of the wire.

Tie a ribbon to the rounding.

Pumpkin from the book

If you have unwanted books lying around, you can find worthy use for them, for example, make something unusual out of them. There are many crafts that can be made from unwanted items - postcards, frames, boxes, lamps, and even flower pots. We'll show you how to make a Halloween pumpkin from an old book.

You will need:

  • Old book;
  • paper;
  • paper knife;
  • glue - glue in a gun will do, you can replace it with PVA;
  • orange paint can;
  • decorative green tape;
  • twig;
  • pencil.

Draw the outline of the future pumpkin on paper. To make it symmetrical, fold the sheet in half, draw only half of the fruit, and then cut out. Separate the cover from the book and fold the prepared template to the binding.

Circle the template with a pencil, separating several pages - 5-6, start cutting out the shape.

Continue cutting out the book pages until you run out. When you cut half of the pumpkin, try to cut a couple of millimeters closer to the center each time, otherwise your fruit will start to grow. It is better to cut off unnecessary pages from the spine with a paper knife.

When the blank is ready, glue the first and last pages. Apply glue to one sheet at a distance of 5 mm from the binding, attach the other to it and press down. To keep the pumpkin stable, glue a few more pages in different places. Place the book vertically and, pulling slightly away from the binding, straighten each leaf, making the pumpkin more symmetrical. If necessary, you can glue the pages.

When the pumpkin has acquired the desired shape, start painting. Place the product on paper and spray it with spray paint. You can paint the edges or the entire surface of the petals.

Cut a small piece from the prepared stick, apply glue to one of its ends and insert into the core of the product. Hold the stick until the glue dries and then tie a ribbon.

One of the main attributes of Halloween is Jack's Lantern, which is a head-carved pumpkin with lights on the inside. The very tradition of pumpkin carving is rooted in centuries of history. One of the versions why the pumpkin-lamp is called Jack comes from an Irish legend. The stingy blacksmith Jack was able to deceive the devil twice and received from him a promise of immunity. However, Jack soon died, never having time to use the privileges he had received. After his death, Jack could not go to heaven or hell. And his soul remained to wander the earth, illuminating its path with a small piece of coal, which he got before his death from the devil. So Jack put this smoldering ember in an empty pumpkin and went to wander around the world.

Over time, Jack's Lanterns began to cut everything in different ways, the types of faces on the pumpkin are very diverse, most often they are triangles instead of eyes and a nose, and also, shark grin at the place of the mouth. But we will make a slightly different form, but it also has a lot to do with All Saints Day. In this article, we'll show you how to make Halloween Pumpkin Jack Lamp.

To make a pumpkin for Halloween, we need

  • pumpkin
  • stencil
  • cutting board
  • aerosol can of black paint (sold in any hardware store)
  • candle
  • spoon
  • knife (one long and one short; the thinner the better)
  • awl (or ordinary knitting needle)
  • safety pins
  • file

DIY pumpkin for Halloween

Note that there are many different types of pumpkins. There are special Halloween ones, they are bright orange and large round in shape. We took a bottle gourd and chose the face shape that best suits this type.

First of all, we cut off the top of the pumpkin, it is better to cut it off a little at an angle so that it closes like a cork.

It is more difficult to carve bottle gourds than regular large gourds, since in such gourds the seeds are at the bottom, and the flesh is dense in the upper part.

Therefore, we carefully try to get to the bottom of the pumpkin in order to clean it out. To do this, we "dig" a tunnel for ourselves with a spoon.

It will be quite difficult to "dig out" the pulp, so you can help yourself with a knife. And soon we will get to the desired seeds.

We take out the seeds, try not to miss anything.

Our blank is ready.

Now using a stencil, we will cut out the face of our pumpkin.

Depending on the size of the pumpkin, the stencil may not fit. But the way out of this situation is very simple. We just cut out each figure 0.5-1 cm closer to the center. And we pin our stencils with pins in the right places.

This is the "Scream" face of our pumpkin.

We take an awl and start making small holes, tracing our stencils.

It should turn out something like this.

We circle all the stencils in this way and take out the pins.

Now we take a small knife and carefully draw the knife along the contour.

Advice: The closer you hold the knife to the end, the easier it will be to cut.

Each time we press on the knife harder, thereby cutting through the wall of the pumpkin.

We pry it off with a knife and take out our "eye".

We cut out all parts of the "face"

After cutting, the edges remain uneven. Therefore, we will file them with a file.

Advice: So that the edges are not torn, you need to file in one direction: from the outside to the inside.

In the picture, the left eye is still unprocessed, and the right is already smoothed.

We smooth out all the cutouts in this way, except for the cap.

At this point, the pumpkin cut ends. We put a candle inside and our pumpkin lamp is ready. But we decided to approach this issue more creatively, so further we will paint our Jack black.

Everything is simple here. There is only one caveat, so as not to paint over our slits in the face, you need to close them. We just shoved the newspapers and sprayed it with glossy black paint.

Advice: Dry paint from a spray can is highly flammable, so your pumpkin and everything nearby will flash like a match. Therefore, under no circumstances light the candle immediately after painting.

It is better to paint on the landing or on the street. Cover your nose, the paint has a pungent smell. After drying, the smell disappears.

Let the pumpkin dry for about 2 hours.

After the paint has dried on our pumpkin, we take out the paper.

It's okay if the edges of the inner slices are still slightly stained.

We will file in these places with a file, thereby removing unnecessary paint. It is not necessary to saw off to cleanliness, otherwise the shape of the cutouts can be damaged.

You can paint the stem on the cap. We painted it with gold gouache. And you could have left it green. But this is an individual matter, as you like best.

So our Lamp Jack is ready. We put a candle inside, light and turn off the light. Due to the long mouth, the reflection of light spreads directly in front of the pumpkin in a wide path.

It appeared on Halloween several centuries ago. According to an old Irish legend, it was invented by a blacksmith named Jack. He was a deeply drunkard, and very stingy at the same time. Jack twice deceived the devil and received a promise from him not to build all sorts of intrigues for him, but soon the blacksmith died without having time to take advantage of this.

After his death, the Irishman did not go to heaven or hell and was forced to wander the earth. Satan threw a piece of coal to the blacksmith, which he put into an empty pumpkin and began to wander around the world with this improvised lamp.

How to make a pumpkin lamp

To do this, you need to pick up a pumpkin of the correct spherical shape, bright orange. Any size fruit will work to make a pumpkin head, but the best fixtures are made from medium sized pumpkins.

In addition, you will need:

  • sharp knife;

  • spoon;

  • awl;

  • Scotch;

  • scissors;

  • stencil.

Make a stencil. Traditionally, the pumpkin head depicts 2 eyes and a nose in the form of triangles and a large mouth. But modern craftsmen cut out a wide variety of subjects. They can also be drawn on a sheet and used as a template.

Use a sharp knife to cut off the top of the pumpkin. Do this at an angle so that later it stays in place and does not fall inside. Peel the fruit and pulp. Scrape the walls with a spoon, their thickness should be no more than two centimeters.

Attach the stencil with pieces of tape to the side where the face will be. Now make punctures with an awl along the contours of the drawing. In this case, the holes should be located quite often at a distance of 2-3 mm from each other.

Remove the template and start cutting out the design with a sharp knife. Cut through the walls of the fruit. Do this slowly and carefully. Use carving knives to cut small parts. After cutting along all the contours, remove the cut parts and carefully cut the flesh at an angle so that it is not visible from the front side.

Immediately grease the cut sections of the pumpkin with a small amount of vegetable oil, so the pulp will not spoil for a long time, and the lantern will last longer. By tradition, a burning candle is placed inside Jack's lamp, but it will be much safer if you place an ordinary battery-powered flashlight in the pumpkin.

The night of November 1 is the worst of the year. Not only does the season change - the warm part irrevocably leaves and winter begins, it was previously believed that on this night evil spirits come to the ground and threaten people. To protect themselves from them, people began to dress up in scary costumes, decorate houses with images of witches and ghosts, and carve creepy faces on pumpkins and other vegetables. From these superstitions we got the traditional holiday - Halloween, one of the main symbols of which was a pumpkin lantern - it is called Jack's lantern.

Why Jack?

There is a legend about the appearance of such a lantern. Once upon a time there was a cunning and greedy Irishman Jack. Once he invited the devil to a tavern for a couple of glasses. They drank, and when it was time to pay off, Jack persuaded the devil to turn into a coin. He grabbed it and put it in his pocket, where he had a silver cross. So the devil was trapped, and in order for Jack to release him, the Prince of Darkness agreed not to claim his soul after Jack's death, and also not to arrange traps and intrigues for Jack for a year. This is how Jack deceived the devil for the first time.

Another time, Jack asked Satan to climb a tree for fruit, and when he obediently climbed, he carved a cross on the bark. And the devil was trapped again. In order for Jack to release him, Satan promised the cunning Irishman 10 years of a carefree life.

But soon Jack died. He was not allowed into paradise, since there is no place for sinners there. And he was not allowed to go to hell either, because the devil keeps his word. So Jack wanders around the world in anticipation of the Day of Judgment, illuminates his path with coal, the last gift of Satan, which the Irishman put in an empty pumpkin. Since then, pumpkin lanterns have been referred to as Jack lanterns.

How to make a pumpkin lantern

You will need a beautiful and large pumpkin, a sharp knife with a thin blade, a spoon with a strong handle, a stencil and a felt-tip pen. And, of course, the candle that we will place in the pumpkin.

  • You need to cut a hole on the top of the pumpkin. It can be round, square, large or small as you wish.
  • Spoon the seeds and some of the pulp from the pumpkin. The seeds can then be dried and fried - pumpkin seeds can be eaten just like that, or they can be used to decorate dishes. The pulp will be used for pies, soups, various casseroles and desserts.
  • Draw a scary face on the pumpkin. It is better to make the eyes, nose, mouth, teeth larger, since they will need to be cut out, and the pumpkin usually has a very hard skin, it is not so easy to cut it.
  • At the bottom of the pumpkin, make a small depression for the candle so that it stands up comfortably and does not fall.
  • Place a candle in the pumpkin and light it. Cover the pumpkin with a lid.

Important! Be careful not to forget the fire safety rules, do not place pumpkin lanterns near flammable objects.

Halloween is a bright and spectacular holiday that came to us from Anglo-Saxon countries and fell to the taste of both children and adults.

Every year on October 31, costume parades, carnivals, photo shoots, school lights and corporate Halloween-style parties are held in many European cities, in the Americas, Mexico, Japan and China, as well as in Russia.

The traditions of the celebration are distinguished by national flavor, rituals, mass character, decorations, but nevertheless, the main attribute of the evening - a luminous pumpkin - remains an invariable recognizable symbol and decoration for all participants in the festival.

From the known legend, which underlies the so-called "pumpkin" tradition.

According to her, an Irishman named Jack was rejected by higher powers and sent to wander into eternity, lighting his path with a pumpkin lantern. Since then, the carved pumpkin symbolizes Jack's lamp and creates an extraordinary ambiance of magic and mysticism.

There are many different ways to carve pumpkins, and now it is already a whole art, which "in American" sounds like pumpkin art (pumpkin art), and the more common name is "carving".

But even a child can carve the simplest and most uncomplicated pumpkin with the help of an adult mentor. Such a craft will perfectly decorate the holiday, and joint creativity will bring a lot of joy to its performers.

Preparatory stage: what you need to make a lantern and how to choose and process a pumpkin

There are a wide variety of professional carving tools available.

But in order to make a pumpkin lantern yourself, at home, you need to stock up on:

  • an ordinary kitchen and office knife,
  • a candle or flashlight,
  • spoon,
  • felt-tip pen,
  • alcohol,
  • and cotton wool or sponge.

You should pay attention to the choice of pumpkin: a complex pattern will look good on a large one, but for the first time it is more convenient to take a medium-sized pumpkin.

The color of the pumpkin can be any: bright and pale orange, yellow, white.

The procedure for making a pumpkin for Halloween:

  1. Before creating a "masterpiece" it is necessary to wash the fruit well, dry it and degrease it with alcohol and cotton wool.
  2. Next, the "cap" is carefully cut out, and the pulp is removed with a spoon. The better the pumpkin is cleaned and the thinner its walls become, the longer the festive lantern will last.
  3. Then we cut out the actual pattern. But first, it is better to apply the contours with a felt-tip pen.

A pattern or picture is drawn on a pumpkin and then carefully carved with a thin kitchen or office knife. If you have a little bit of drawing talent, just draw by looking at examples. Otherwise, use templates.

Better to cut the pumpkin beforehand so that it has time to dry well, 12 hours will be enough.

As a backlight, you can use small candles or flashlight... As an option - wrap New Year's LED garland a glass jar or just put a garland in a pumpkin.

The imagination of carving masters is endless. The traditional occupation has become a real art. It is not very difficult to carve the most ordinary pumpkin, but a holiday is a holiday to surprise, delight and inspire!

Simple masks - the classic solution

The most elementary drawing on a pumpkin is a mask or a face, although here there are many ways to preserve originality.

After completing all the stages of preparing the future "Jack's Lantern", you should think about how the mask will look like. She can be funny and hilarious, or she can truly inspire fear and horror with her monstrous grin.

At the end of the material, we offer you several ready-made templates for drawing on a pumpkin, which you can open in a new browser tab and download. The finished drawing should be printed on a printer, cuts should be made along the edges so that the ornament fits well on an uneven surface and fixed with "tape" on the pumpkin.

If you cut through the parts in the template by making a stencil, then you can simply circle the desired contour with a felt-tip pen. Or you can leave the downloaded drawing as it is and pierce the contours with a sharp awl or other tool.

But it is much more interesting to connect your creative thinking and create a unique and inimitable "physiognomy". Try handwriting on a piece of paper, or invite your child to be creative.

Often, when making masks, geometric patterns are used.

The nose and eyes of the face can have a triangular shape, and the grin can have a zigzag shape. The difficulty of such a pattern lies in cutting out the corners.

In order not to spoil the work, you should carefully pierce the peel with a thin knife and then make small cuts.

No need to turn the knife to cut a corner, it is better to remove the tool from the pumpkin and pierce the peel in a new direction of movement.

To make a kinder and nicer pumpkin mask, you just need to get rid of the sharp corners by adding smooth lines. The grin will easily become a smile if, instead of triangular "fangs", neat square "teeth" are cut out.

The eyes can be made round by using a small penknife or chisel (found in art stores) as a tool to smooth the lines.

In addition to the frightening humanoid masks, the carved faces of animals and fabulous creatures, for example, the mystical cat Behemoth or Pokemon, look very interesting.

Pokemon without its sharp ears will be unrecognizable, so you can try and cut two wonderful "ears" from another pumpkin. To keep the "locators" well and not fall off during noisy festivities and sabbaths of any "evil", you need to make slots in the pumpkin and use toothpicks to fix the "ears".

Not always only "Jack's lantern" is made of pumpkin. A simple cut-out mask without illumination also looks colorful, if the work is done subtly and skillfully.

Of course, such a pumpkin may well decorate a holiday in the daytime, but in the evening “fire heads”, placed on a reflective glossy surface, look much more spectacular.

Choosing a bright orange pumpkin makes a great mask. The figures on the pumpkin look spectacular, differing from the main body of the pumpkin in color and even in shade. For example, in order to get big white teeth, you need to clean the top layer of the peel and then cut each tooth separately. It is very good to do this kind of work with thin and sharp Thai knives.

The work performed by the following carving method does not require illumination at all. In this case, the pulp may not be extracted from the pumpkin. It is enough to work out the drawing with high quality using sharp tools, cutting out only the upper layers of the peel.

The desired effect is achieved by varying the pressure and depth of the cuts.

Since the cap is not cut off, the tail of the pumpkin can mimic the ugly nose of the old sorcerer.

Compositions of pumpkins

Of course, a lonely pumpkin head will look boring, even if it is done very talentedly. Compositions of lanterns look much more interesting.

Large and small pumpkins, set at different heights, decorated with branches and autumn leaves, will decorate any interior or photo zone on All Saints Day. An interesting idea to put pumpkins on large shelves for flowers or fruits.

You can make one-in-one compositions of several pumpkins. In such works, a large pumpkin "villain's head" is first carved out, and then small faces are placed in the slots of the "villain's" jaws. You can fix parts of the composition with toothpicks or canapé sticks.

Characters and images

Halloween is the night on the eve of All Saints' Day, at this time the border between the earthly world and the world of higher powers is erased. Accordingly, the spirit of the holiday is reflected in the work of the masters of artistic pumpkin carving.

There are also cute ghosts, either alone, like Carlson, or in funny companies.

And ugly, fearsome and terrifying, bats, owls, spiders and other creatures with mystical powers.

And where to go on this holiday without witches, their magic potion, black cats and fire-breathing dragons?

Compositions of pumpkins in the form of witch houses look great. Windows, a door are cut out with a penknife, attics, verandas, and a door are completed with the help of cut-out elements from the hotel. The light in the windows seems to remind all Halloween fans that many mysterious creatures are awake this night.

It should be noted that with the proper skill, you can carve complex magic scenes with witchcraft motives, rich in details on a Halloween pumpkin. We will show some below.

The Headless Horseman ... Scary! Terrible! But how beautiful this image looks, carved on the main symbol of Halloween!

One of the most popular and successful films about sorcerers, magicians, sorcerers and the school of wizards is "Harry Potter". Why not use the ideas from this movie to decorate the pumpkins?

Traditionally, motives or characters from comics or books are often used. The Spider-Man character is fabulous and mystical. In addition, in the photo below, the entrance to a certain fiery hell. Perhaps this is the Doom Cave in Mordor from the popular book of Tolkien.

Lovers of apple gadgets can make a pumpkin lantern with the emblem of their favorite iPhone for Halloween.

And the motives of death and the afterlife sound in the Gothic works, which will find their admirers.

Well, the very reminder of Halloween is marked on Jack's lanterns in the form of images of pumpkins, inscriptions and other festive and symbolism.

Dyeing technology

Often, when creating original works from pumpkins, dyeing technology is used.

You can shade individual elements of the composition using ordinary food colors or paints for Easter eggs.

Or you can draw patterns with ordinary gouache or paint parts of the picture.

Attention! Careless strokes can be easily removed with rubbing alcohol and cotton wool.

Halloween pumpkin made of paper - simple and original!

If the carving technology seems too complicated and overwhelming, and you really want to decorate the interior for the holiday, then the ideal option would be to create a paper pumpkin from papier-mâché.

In order to make a paper pumpkin with your own hands you will need:

  • paper (preferably colored),
  • balloon,
  • stationery glue,
  • threads,
  • felt-tip pen,
  • stationery knife,
  • LED flashlight.

It is necessary to tear the paper into small pieces, then inflate the balloon and paste over it with several layers of paper. The topmost layer should not be too smeared with glue.

The finished paper ball is hung by a thread and left to dry for 10-12 hours. Once the paper gourd is dry, you can pierce the inside of the ball, make a small incision, and carefully remove it.

If you have time, you can mold a base of a more complex shape from plasticine. Then you have a chance to make not just a flashlight, but a real work of art.

You can also draw a face on a paper pumpkin using a felt-tip pen or marker, then cut out the resulting drawing with a thin stationery knife or small nail scissors.

By placing an LED flashlight inside, you can achieve a great resemblance of a paper props to a real Jack's lantern.

Under no circumstances should you put a candle inside such a lamp, the paper is highly flammable, and an unplanned "fire show" may occur. As it was written above, it is better to use an LED string.

Paper pumpkin is a great alternative to real fruit craft.

It is almost weightless and can be easily attached to the ceiling. Party guests will be delighted with candies or small surprises placed in a papier-mâché pumpkin.
