Making key holders from wood. Do-it-yourself housekeeper: step-by-step instructions for stylish and beautiful wall models. Quick DIY creation of key holders from cardboard

One of those household little things that is quite important for many of us is the housekeeper. After all, it often happens that you have to search and find keys for a long time in various places. And the housekeeper saves time and nerves. It is not so difficult to make it, since there are a large number of master classes for making key holders with your own hands.

What are the housekeepers

It is clear that there is no strict classification of housekeepers. But according to where they are located, there are two main types of them: pocket and wall.

A pocket key holder is a cover bag that can be made from different materials, for example, leather, fabric. Loops are sewn (glued) inside the cover, which can be made of metal or a piece of cord. These loops act as hooks.

These simple key holders are designed to protect your pocket from physical damage with keys. In addition, this way all keys are stored in only one place.

Obviously, key holders for walls are more common than pocket ones. They are open or closed. The simplest open key holder is a simple board with hooks attached, which can be nails and screws, wire and wood twigs. In general, here you can use whatever you put on the key.

If you have not done carpentry before and decided to make a wall key holder for your home on your own, then it is better to start with something simple.

The first step is to choose a place where the product will be placed. Knowing about the place will allow you to immediately set the type, shape and size of your key holder.

What materials are housekeepers made of?

The most suitable materials for creating housekeepers with your own hands are wood, plywood sheets, hardboard, MDF, chipboard.

At the same time, the tree is often used to make housekeepers in the hallway with their own hands. Indeed, it is quite easy to work with this material even for a beginner in carpentry.

Most popular key hanger

A key holder made of wood is one of the most popular options. After all, everyone can easily find several tablets that can be used in any format. They need to be connected in accordance with the shape you have chosen. Then you can start processing, which is also not difficult.

The easiest option is sanding with sandpaper or a machine, followed by coating with paint or varnish.

You can make a more complex product. To do this, remove soft fibers with a metal brush, which will reveal a woody pattern. Pine wood is perfect for this. Then the product is covered with varnish with dye pigments, stain. This will give clarity to the woody pattern.

A similar effect is obtained by using a blowtorch for processing. But here it is worth trying so as not to overheat. The processed boards must be fastened, hooks hung on them.

Key holder with shelf

Agree, the simplest option for a housekeeper is not the most practical. After all, we don't have that many keys to keep all the hooks busy. Because of this, there are housekeepers with a shelf for various trifles. The formats of these shelves can be very different.

An interesting idea for making key holders is a key holder with magnets. This is an ordinary shelf, at the bottom of which magnets are attached, they hold the keys, attracting them. Although only iron keys are suitable for this.

Plywood housekeeper

Obviously, plywood is more comfortable to work with. After all, this is already processed material, you just need to cut the desired shape. Lightly sandpaper the edges of the product, paint and attach hooks.

Plywood is good because it allows you to create a variety of shapes in a variety of styles.

Picture frames for housekeeper

You can also make a housekeeper from a picture frame. With staples or glue, you need to attach a piece of hardboard to the back of the frame, which will be used as a base.

The inner surface of the frame can be processed as you wish: paint, stick on plain paper or a drawing. Depending on the type of keys, the hooks must be attached either to the frame itself or to its inner surface.

Key holders can be without hooks

Strange as it may sound, there are housekeepers without hooks. To do this, natural wood is taken and cracks are made in it with a milling machine or circular saw.

If this is not the case, then you can use a regular file. This must be done carefully and stop in time so as not to spoil the workpiece. It is desirable to process the cut well afterwards. The cuts themselves can be made both horizontally and at an angle.

Unnecessary technique for making key holders

If you have panels from old technology with holes for plugs, you have a chance to make a very unusual key holder. It is necessary to cut out the panel and insert the plugs as key hooks. Hang the product on the wall.

The headstock of a string instrument also looks good as a housekeeper. You just need to add hooks to it. If it's a pity to spoil an old guitar or violin, you can make an imitation, which is even more interesting.

Diy housekeeper photo

Tired of constantly looking for keys all over the house? I bring to your attention six ideas for making a housekeeper with your own hands from scrap materials. Thanks to this accessory, they will always be in one place known to all households.

Ideas you can bring to life in your own workshop

Of course, you can just buy a housekeeper in the hallway. But when you start choosing the right model for yourself, it turns out that:

  • Price such a simple product has a very considerable one;
  • They do not have any complex structural units that could not be made by yourself.

So, the question is, why overpay for a factory sample, which, moreover, can be found in the apartment of friends, if you can make an original housekeeper literally from improvised penny materials?

Idea number 1: a plank with a slot

It is enough to take a sanded board, which could have remained with you after some home repair, and make a slot in it with a router. That's it, the elementary housekeeper is ready. In this case, depending on the position of the slot, the following options are possible:

Photo Description

Horizontal slot... The keys are easy to insert, but they can bump into each other when you take them out.

Vertical slots... In this case, the keys do not interfere with each other, but they need large key chains, which are not very convenient to carry in pockets.

You can even fix such a wood product with a simple double-sided tape, because the load will be small.

Idea number 2: plank with hooks

If you have several hooks for clothes, then you can make a housekeeper using them:

Photo Description

  • We take a plank of any size;
  • We grind her with sandpaper.

  • We choose on the back side there are grooves for the hinges;
  • We fasten them with self-tapping screws.

Screw in key hooks in front, having previously drilled holes for them.

Testing.

Idea # 3: frame

Beautiful house key holders are obtained from frames. Several different approaches to the manufacturing process can also be distinguished here:

Photo Description

Frame decoration... In this case, the structure for storing keys is made in the same way as in the previous paragraph, but in the end it is also decorated with baguettes.

Framed hooks... Here, the wall key holder is made from a frame by screwing hooks into it.

For the manufacture of a key holder from one frame, only wood or MDF are suitable. Cast or overhead baguettes will crack from drilling.

Idea # 4: locker

The wall-mounted key holder in the form of a cabinet has two main distinguishing features:

  • Positive: bottom or top wall construction - ready-made shelf for various small accessories;
  • Negative: Combines only with classic and old Russian styles.

It is noteworthy that the cabinet itself does not have to be assembled from scratch, it is quite possible to use ready-made frames:

Photo Description
Case from old watches... If you have a ready-made frame, a housekeeper with your own hands is very simple:
  • We take out old clock;
  • We fasten hooks.

Old casket... Here, in addition to the hooks, you will also need to think over the system for attaching the product to the wall.

Old furniture drawer. Here also:
  • We fix hooks;
  • Thinking over fastening system;
  • Decorating with paint or varnish.

If you plan to assemble the locker yourself, then the following scheme will come in handy:

Idea # 5: plywood figure

The most original designs for storing keys can be made from pliable plywood. The principle of mounting hooks here is the same as in the case of a conventional plank. Only the background will not be in the form of a simple rectangle, but will take on the appearance of any shape you wish.

How to make a housekeeper from wood-laminated board? Let's highlight five main steps:

  1. We create the desired pencil drawing on a sheet of paper or in any graphic editor, after which we print it;
  2. We transfer image on a sheet of plywood using a carbon copy;
  3. We aim contours with an electric burner;
  4. Cut out hand jigsaw;
  5. Sanding m and decorate.

Idea number 6: knots from trees

Another way to achieve originality is to use branches and twigs from trees. Cut them to the desired size, connect with self-tapping screws and paint.

Decorating

The decor also allows you to bring original solutions to the look of the housekeeper, make it as suitable as possible for the surrounding interior, or even turn it into a real attraction in your hallway.

Consider the most popular decoration options:

Polymer clay

This material allows you to create a three-dimensional design for your design. This is done like this:

  1. Knead thoroughly a bar of polymer clay to a soft pliable state;
  2. Sculpt from it a plate with the desired ornament or even figurines with hooks. It all depends on your creative idea;

If the bar is very difficult to handle with your fingers, put a few drops of vegetable oil on it. This will make the process easier and faster.

  1. We bake the finished product in the oven at a temperature of + 120-139 degrees Celsius until a brownish crust appears;
  2. Turn off oven and let the craft cool without removing it;
  3. We apply acrylic varnish or paint;
  4. After drying, install to the housekeeper.

Decoupage

In the decoupage technique, there are two options for applying an image to the surface to be decorated:

  1. Straight... The base is primed with a special compound, after which PVA glue and the paper picture itself are applied to it;

  1. Back... It is, in fact, just a decal that can be purchased at a specialty store.

Conclusion

You have familiarized yourself with several ideas for making key holders and methods for their subsequent decoration. The video in this article contains additional content. In the comments, you can ask any questions on the topic.

The housekeeper is an interesting and necessary detail of the home interior, which will help to keep in sight the keys to the house, car and garage. A thing really necessary for everyday life. It will decorate and complement the interior design, and also speaks of the delicate taste and stylish choice of the owner. The fixture is attached to the wall, stored on a table, or carried in your pocket. You can buy a key holder, but it's easier to make it yourself from old wooden boards, magnets, frames, seat belts and even old spoons and forks.

This fixture is made of a natural board with four metal bolts on it. The key holder is attached directly to the wall and is a great addition to any home interior. Her style combines two directions: rustic and modern. The board has not been specially treated to preserve its natural beauty.

The housekeeper looks original using an old picture frame. It is painted or decorated with flowers, ribbons or fabric - it all depends on the imagination of the master. Hooks are screwed along the inside of the top edge of the frame. Their number is determined by the size of the selected square and the number of sets of keys that need to be stored.

The next housekeeper was made from a large key, to which several hooks were attached. Such a device is semi-antique and has a universal color.

The key holder is made of thin wood in the shape of a small house. Its inhabitants are two wooden figures, which are taken out together with the keys. The pediment of the house is decorated with a small heart, and the keychains are made in the form of a man and a woman. Figures of partners are connected in the evening when the keys are placed in the dwelling.

Ideal for lovers of minimalism and naturalism, a housekeeper in the form of a honeycomb. Five magnetic hooks keep essentials in one convenient place. The wood has been sanded and treated with machine oil to emphasize its natural warmth.

The second version of a similar device has a cream shade in combination with golden magnetic hooks.

Do-it-yourself housekeeper ideas

1) What to do with silver cutlery that is not fit for food? They can be adapted to match original key hooks. To do this, take thin forks and spoons (3 pcs.), Acrylic paint, small wooden squares, glue and three brass triangular hooks.

  • The easiest way to bend a fork is to throw it into boiling water. After it has softened a little, bend the end of the handle upward with tongs.
  • Wooden squares are covered with 1-2 coats of acrylic paint.
  • Glue the inside of the teeth to the wood.

Make sure the fork is straight and the amount of glue is moderate, otherwise the product will come out flawed.

  • On the seamy side of the squares, hooks are attached with which the key holder will hang on the wall.

2) During hikes and walks in the forest, you often come across natural materials that can be adapted for decor items. So, for example, the bark of a tree can become the basis for a housekeeper in the hallway. It is cleaned of excess, sanded and varnished or painted.

An original piece of furniture can be made from a wood treated with sandpaper and stained with a saw cut.

To create a uniform top layer, pass the stain at least 2-3 times. After each application of the liquid, the product is dried.

The tree is left in its natural color or a decoupage pattern is applied. The saw cut is first covered with acrylic varnish, and then the drawing is tightly applied (face down). After that, the product is dried for 2-3 hours. Before rolling the pattern, the paper must be moistened. The procedure is performed until the whitish layer is completely cleansed and the pattern is clearly visible. Finally, the top of the housekeeper is covered with acrylic varnish.

For a simple plywood key holder you will need:

  • plywood,
  • paper,
  • glue,
  • calipers,
  • self-tapping screws,
  • screws and small hooks.

A circle is drawn on a piece of plywood, and then the edges are leveled with a caliper. A rectangle is attached to the circle, from which the stock and the teeth of the key are made.

The edges are cut with a jigsaw and cleaned with sandpaper. Then the base is pasted over with paper or painted.

The edges of the paper are folded over and cut with a blade.

DIY leather key holder with a pattern, in stages

A square (12 x 12 cm) is cut out of a piece of bright leather. Bend the workpiece in half and in the center, not reaching the edges of 2 cm, mark a rectangle (8 x 2 cm). Its edges are coated with Moment glue and a zipper is inserted. To decorate the key holder, you can emboss using a cliche. The template is preheated through the foil with an iron, and then forcefully pressed against the skin with forceps.

The foil is removed. A zipper is sewn into the edges of the accessory. Excess details are cut off. The edges of the product go through with glue, without forgetting to insert the keyhole. Then the ends are connected and fixed with clamps. After drying, the corners of the workpiece are cut off and the edges pass through with threads.

Keys are placed in the ring and excess threads are removed.

How to sew a housekeeper with your own hands

Housekeeper in the shape of a cat. To make it you will need:

  • denim,
  • cotton for lining,
  • adhesive base,
  • lace,
  • a small piece of padding polyester.

The seam allowances are taken into account in the template.

First, let's cut out the details according to the diagram.

Use a gossamer to glue detail 1 to the denim blank 2. Fold the edges of the cotton, iron it and sew in a zigzag.

Then parts 2 (jeans and cotton) are connected together.

The workpieces are folded along the seam and passed through the iron.

At the next stage, they begin to prepare the ears. Parts 3 are connected at the edges.

Turned out and smoothed. The ears are sewn to the body, and also pass the sides.

In the picture, pink stripes mark the holes for the lanyard to which the keys are attached.

Stitch through all the seams, leaving the marked areas. The product is turned inside out and a lace is prepared slightly longer than the base itself. The fish is turned inside out, and the edges are sewn together. The cat's face is embroidered.
The string is inserted into the hole and the keys are fastened.

Felt is a practical material, soft and comfortable to sew. Its colors are rich and bright, and the cost of felt is quite affordable. Mainly housekeepers in the shape of funny animals are made of felt.

Funny mice can be made with children. The keys are held on a cord made of interweaving of multi-colored threads.

The accessory can be crocheted or knitted from the rest of the yarn. Decorate it with embroidery, beads and buttons.

When starting to make key holders, they take into account the interior design, the number of keys and their financial capabilities.

Wall key holders fit perfectly into the hallway - plus you don't have to look for keys throughout the house. This is the main advantage of any housekeeper: time saving. In a couple of weeks, you will develop a habit in the evening, when you come home from work, to hang the key on it, and in the morning, when you leave for work, take it off. As a result, you no longer need to search the apartment in search of missing keys, and you also always know which of your relatives is at home - just look at the key keeper and see if all the keys are in place.

The practical side isn't the only advantage. There is also aesthetics, because you can arrange a housekeeper in any style. Do you have an eco-friendly hallway? Nothing fits better than a tree branch housekeeper. High tech ? A small stylish metal housekeeper will suit him. Provence? Decoupage with flowers or birds. Classic? Wooden lacquered board of a strict form.

In any home store, you can find something that suits you personally. But there is another approach: to make a housekeeper with your own hands.

It has advantages:

  • Originality... A hand-made thing will always be different from a similar one, but produced on a conveyor belt. Processing features inherent in each master, interesting design solutions - even making a housekeeper according to the instructions, you will know for sure that no one has the same.
  • Diversity... At home, even without experience, you can make more than a dozen different housekeepers. From a wooden saw cut, from a box, from a wire, from a branch, even from forks - there is always material, you just need a little patience to handle it carefully.
  • Harmony... A purchased housekeeper may be perfect for your hallway, but you need to find it first. A hand-made one will fit like a native one - after all, you will work on it, having come up with a design and knowing how it will fit.
  • Interesting experience... Doing something with your own hands is not only useful - it's also fun. If you have kids, you can team up with them to make simple housekeeping an adventure. And if there are no children, you can just enjoy the process.

Homemade housekeepers are different - from different materials, different designs. Before getting to work, you need to figure out which one you need.

What are the housekeepers?

There are two ways to classify key holders.

The first is by design:

  • Open... These are usually made by hand, since they are easier to perform. They are any hooks on which you can hang keys driven into anything. A board with nails? Open. A branch with knots? Open. Leather cut with pockets? Open.
  • Closed... These are more difficult to do - it will take some carpentry skills. They represent a cabinet that is closed by a door. The door will have to be hinged, otherwise it will quickly fall off. They allow you to hide what exactly is inside, protect the keys from prying eyes. Shelves for useful little things can be built into them, a mirror can be hung on the door and in a different way to expand the practical application.

The second method is based on the materials that were used.

Wine bottle corks can be considered a kind of wood - they can also be used to make a beautiful housekeeper. But it will not work out of paper - it will wear out too quickly. It will also not come out of glass or stone - it is difficult to find material, it is even more difficult to process.

Advice

When choosing a material, be guided by three indicators: what will be easiest for you to work with, what will best fit into your hallway, and what you will definitely be able to get. Having decided - proceed.

How to do it yourself?

Before starting work, it remains to remember the basic rules that all masters follow:

  • In the process, you should not be disturbed. Ask your family to give you a couple of quiet hours, close the door, and don't get distracted.
  • The place of work should be well lit. Doing something with your hands under the light of a dim light bulb is not only harmful to your eyes, but also simply inconvenient.
  • Everything should be in place. This is important when working with sharp objects. When you have finished cutting plywood or a metal sheet, put the jigsaw or knife in a conspicuous place, where you will not lose it. Otherwise, you could get hurt.

The simplest: a key holder made of cardboard

Cardboard is the simplest material from which you can make a housekeeper. You will need:

  • sheets of thick cardboard - the usual gray color, can be found in the house, or you can buy a set;
  • a suitable drawing on photographic paper - you can print it in any stationery store, and choose your taste by searching on the Internet;
  • decorative screws with beautiful caps, awl;
  • a piece of wire, brushes, varnish, glue, sponge.

The instructions for performing the work are simple:

  • cut out the desired figure from four sheets of cardboard - a circle, a square, a heart, it all depends on imagination;
  • with an awl, pierce two holes in the upper part of one blank figure - for a loop;
  • insert the wire into the holes, twist it so that it does not fall out;
  • on the side where the twisted wire remains, glue the rest of the blanks;
  • on the front, mark the holes for the screws and pierce them with an awl.

At this point, the blank of the housekeeper itself is obtained. The rest is, in fact, decoration:

  • put the photo face down, moisten the sponge, wet the top layer, and then roll it up, lightly pressing;
  • dry the photo, grease it with glue with a brush and stick it on the workpiece;
  • cover everything together with varnish to achieve greater strength;
  • insert screws.

The result is the simplest housekeeper. It is not very durable, it is afraid of moisture, it can tear if you pull it hard, but it's easy to make, the materials cost almost nothing and the result looks decent. Especially if you like bright lacquered drawings, and in the hallway you have a simple renovation, without designer frills.

Advice

Such a housekeeper is a good gift for older relatives. Grandmothers and grandfathers will be delighted to receive a little thing, in which a photo with the faces of their beloved relatives will be useful at the same time.

Perfect eco-style: making from a branch

The branch as a key holder is fresh, original and fits perfectly into the eco-style. You can find it in the nearest park (you may have to spend several days), and it will not be difficult to issue it. Will need:

  • dry branch - a wet tree will quickly begin to rot, lose its appearance;
  • wood stain, jigsaw, drill, sandpaper, hooks (you can buy special ones in the store, you can use thick nails).

If desired, you can place a varnished drawing above the branch that will complement it. You can hang beads, feathers and decorative keys on bright threads to it. You can carve anything into wood - from a few letters to the simplest design.

For connoisseurs of hard liquor from corks

It is good to do a key holder made of corks together with children, because most of all this process is similar to trying to assemble a mosaic without a picture that shows the final result.

You will need:

  • photo frame - you can glue it yourself, or you can buy it;
  • about twenty wine bottle corks;
  • PVA glue - not a pencil, but in a jar;
  • nails with beautiful heads or hooks.

The rest requires only skill:

  • take a cork, spread it on the side and ends with glue, insert it inside the photo frame so that it adjoins the frame from the inside;
  • take the next cork, spread with glue, attach to the first.

The process is close to meditation: you need to fold the corks so that they ideally fill the space of the frame. The result should be left to dry overnight, then varnished and the key hooks inserted into the soft cork tree.

The advantage of such a housekeeper is its uniqueness. Just like two identical branches, there will not be two photo frames equally filled with corks. To give the design a chic, you can paint the corks in different colors, burn them out or cut letters on them.

A simpler option, more suitable for eco-style, is to find a thin stick and hang corks to it on bright threads. Drive a hook into each cork and hang the key on it.

Advice

A simple version with corks will only look appropriate in a minimalist interior or in a hallway full of fun accessories. In strict styles - in the same classics and hi-tech - he has no place.

Classic beauty: from a sawn timber

Despite the spectacular result, the process of making such a key holder is no more complicated than working with a tree branch. The only problem that you may face is the difficulty of finding a pine saw cut while living in the city. But you can either find a fallen tree branch and saw off a piece from it, or contact the village relatives.

You will need:

  • a round cut of a tree - a circle two to three centimeters thick, cut from the end of a log, and it is best that it be pine;
  • stain, sandpaper of different grain size, varnish;
  • wide brush, hooks, drill, screwdriver;
  • a printout of an image previously mirrored.

All this is combined simply:

  • sandpaper - first, medium grain size, then fine, and only along the fibers, otherwise ugly scratches will form;
  • moisten with water so that the wood swells slightly, leave to dry;
  • cover with a stain (preferably water-based, since it hardens longer and all mistakes can be corrected in the process) three times to get a beautiful bright color;
  • varnish the prepared printout, then cover the front side of the back with it, press the printout to it, gently smooth it so that there are no bubbles;
  • after the printout is dry (it will take two to three hours), moisten it with warm water, slowly remove it until the drawing appears - clean off the remaining white;
  • on the back of the key holder, drill with a drill holes for the hook on which it will hang, and on the front side - holes for the hooks on which the keys will hang.

The drawing can be any, the main thing is that it is black and white - it will be possible to convey the colors with the help of varnish, but they will not be as bright as on the original. You can do without it at all, then the hallway will be decorated with the noble texture of the treated wood.

Advice

A wooden saw cut will fit well with a classic interior. A good solution would also be to select its shade so that it matches the color of the furniture. As a last resort, you can walk over it with a dry brush and acrylic paint to get the desired color.

Quality for decades - made of metal

Working with metal is difficult, especially if you've never done it before. But if you start with an ordinary wire housekeeper, it becomes clear that perseverance will overcome any difficulties. You will need:

  • thick wire - several millimeters in diameter;
  • sharp scissors - best for metal, but ordinary wire cutters will do;
  • pliers, hammer.

The manufacturing process is simple:

  • find an interesting outline drawing on the Internet - for a start, something simple, like an intricate spiral, square, circle, stylized cat;
  • try to repeat the drawing with a wire - bend it by clamping one end in pliers, and fixing the other with your free hand;
  • sharp corners can be obtained by pressing them down with a hammer head; smooth lines are enough to curl with pliers;
  • when the figure is ready, hooks from the same wire must be attached to its lower part, and a thin wire must be fixed at the back, on which the entire structure can be hung.

An interesting variation on this same idea is the use of a coat hanger. It does not need to be bent with pliers and beaten with a hammer. It is enough just to hang hooks on its lower part, and decorate the main part with anything, from gears of old watches to banal flowers made of colored paper.

A more difficult way to make a metal key holder is to use a thin sheet of metal, which can either be found in leftovers after repairs or purchased from a hobby store.

You will need:

  • thin metal sheet;
  • sharp scissors, nail, sketch drawing, hand drill, hooks;
  • a product that will make the metal hermetically sealed and prevent rust.

The pattern cannot be anything - only the one that can be cut out of metal. Silhouettes of animals, fish, plants, castles are best suited. Any fairly simple forms. You can show your imagination and come up with an abstract figure.

Before more will remain:

  • cut a silhouette from a sheet with a pattern;
  • attach the silhouette to a metal sheet, circle with the tip of a nail;
  • carefully cut along the contour, making sure that no ugly chipping remains;
  • bend sharp edges with a hammer that may turn out in the process;
  • drill holes for the hooks with a drill;
  • cover the resulting base with a sealing agent, let it dry;
  • insert the hooks into the holes, fasten the mount at the back.

It is better if the metal sheet is black, this will make it more stylish. You can, however, use shiny, polished options, but they tend to fade over time, losing all their chic look.

Advice

Do not use too thick metal, it will be difficult to cut. In addition, the nail on which it will hang may not withstand the weight.

It will be interesting to you:

Decoupage technique - we make from the frame

If you like simple pictures of flowers, birds, animals or landscapes, this method will also be to your taste. You will need:

  • frame from an old picture or photograph - you can even glue it yourself;
  • a piece of plywood - always of good quality;
  • acrylic paints, varnish and primer, plus a wide brush;
  • sandpaper, decoupage drawing, file, stationery PVA;
  • hooks, drill, jigsaw.

The key holder technique is more complicated than the previous ones. You will have to not only glue, drill, use sandpaper, but also cut it out with a jigsaw.

The sequence looks like this:

  • measure the dimensions of the frame, cut the plywood with a jigsaw so that it coincides with them and can be inserted inside - you need to act carefully, otherwise it will crack;
  • drill holes in the plywood through which the self-tapping screws will enter, with which it will be attached to the frame, cover it with acrylic primer and leave it for several hours;
  • sand plywood first with medium grit with sandpaper, then with fine sandpaper;
  • put the decoupage drawing face down on the file, moisten the inside out with water;
  • grease the plywood with glue, attach a file, smooth it out so that no bubbles remain, carefully remove;
  • dilute acrylic paint, cover the frame with it so that it matches the color of the picture;
  • insert hooks into the holes drilled in the plywood, attach it to the frame;
  • varnish the result.

Instead of plywood, you can use thick paper or embroidered fabric. You can even leave the frame empty by attaching the hooks directly to it - this will also be beautiful in its own way.

Advice

It is important to ensure that the drawing fits the interior. For high-tech, birds with flowers will be alien; for a rustic style, the city of the future is also not suitable.

Artistic cutting from plywood

The most difficult of the open key holders is perhaps this one. Plywood, which you might have left after renovation, in the form of a shelf from unnecessary furniture or a back wall from something, the material is cheap, but moody. If you work with it inaccurately, it can crack, after which it will not look as beautiful as we would like.

But you can give it any shape, cut out any silhouette or word from it.

You will need:

  • jigsaw, drill, spatula, wood putty, varnish;
  • key hooks, directly a piece of plywood.

You will also need a sketch. As with sheet metal, simple silhouettes work best: a cloud, a cat, a word, a flower, even an ordinary circle that can be turned into the moon. You can go further and make a double key holder: shape it, and then cut out the individual elements.

Such an idea can often be found: a housekeeper in the shape of a house, sawn separately elements in the form of human figures. Each has a key attached. When a person wants to take it, he takes out a figurine and leaves with it in his pocket. From the remaining voids, one can easily understand who is at home and who is not.

Regular hooks are an economical option

The technology, however, is the same:

  • take plywood, fix it well so that it does not slip;
  • start sawing, carefully removing a thin layer of plywood - the movements of the jigsaw should be directed in one direction, intensifying from beginning to end;
  • drill holes for hooks;
  • process the edges with sandpaper, if cracks turn out - seal them with putty;
  • cover the product with varnish, let it dry;
  • insert the hooks into the holes.

To make the housekeeper brighter, you can paint it in any color with acrylic paint before varnishing. You can put a drawing on it, you can cut out a simple pattern with a jigsaw. The main thing is that the result looks harmonious, fits the main interior.

Advice

The plywood key holder can go with any style. The question is how you will arrange it.

Graceful simplicity: uncomplicated models

The cardboard housekeeper is simple, the design from the branch is also not complicated, but there are also simpler ones:

Cutlery... If you have unnecessary spoons and forks in your house, they can make excellent housekeepers. It is enough just to bend them so that you get hooks, and fix them on a wooden or plywood board using a drill and self-tapping screws. At the same time, the teeth of the forks can be beautifully bent, twisted with pliers in a spiral or bent so that they resemble bent fingers. Spoons can be engraved, drilled or decorated in any other way.

Leather... Leather key holders are an excellent solution for those who like to sew rather than work with a jigsaw. It is enough to take a large piece of leather, give it a shape with the help of scissors (from an abstract spot to the silhouette of a cat or a bird), and then either drive small carnations into it, or sew leather pockets to it. You can even sew bright threads so that they hang down, and provide the ends with small hooks. Embroidery, decoupage, ribbon bow, badges or buttons - all means will be good for decoration.

Lego is a creative and fun way to diversify the interior

Wooden plank... It does not need to be cut with a jigsaw, like plywood, and treated with wood stain, like a saw cut. It is enough just to attach hooks purchased at the nearest hardware store to it. For beauty, you can burn a drawing or a few words on a tree, cut out a simple pattern or apply a drawing - either guided solely by imagination, or by translating it with a carbon copy.

Watch... An old, non-working beautiful clock is a great base. They can be attached to a plank, drilled holes in it, and hooks fixed. Or you can use a watch without a plank if they are old by themselves and there is enough space on them to screw in the screws.

Threads... You need to drive nails into the board in random order, and then connect them with bright threads so that you get a semblance of a pattern. You can form it point by point, like a constellation, you can leave it abstract, just an interweaving of bright colors. Drive the hooks at the bottom, calmly hang the keys on them.

In addition to the shape, it is also important to correctly position the key holder. It should be about the same height as your chest for easy access. .

If there are children in the house, you need to either substitute a chair for them, or hang the structure below.

It should be placed so as not to interfere with anything, while close enough to the door so that a person, standing shod on the rug, can easily reach it. Do not put anything under the housekeeper, do not overload the hallway with accessories.

In order not to find yourself in a difficult situation when leaving the house, you should take care of a permanent place to store your keys. For this purpose, most use a housekeeper with a sufficient number of places. Having placed it in a convenient place, it is difficult to forget the keys when leaving for work or a walk. When you return, you can quickly fix the ligament in the place assigned to it. If a wall key holder is made with your own hands, it will definitely become a stylish element. You just need to show your imagination and carefully read the master class on the manufacture of a specific model.

Do-it-yourself housekeeper: master class

Making a pocket housekeeper

Do-it-yourself pocket key holder is made in the following sequence:

  • We prepare material and tools: leather, ruler, awl, strong thread, scissors, preferred fastener. We are working on a sketch of the future product. Attention should be paid to the smallest details. It is better to draw a sketch in full size;
  • We cut out two parts: large and small. The larger width should exceed the dimensions of the bundle by 2 cm. In this case, it will be convenient to place the keys inside. The length should be twice the length of the largest key + 8 cm, of which 5 cm will fall on the one-piece valve parts. The small one will be the inner part of the flap, to which the counterpart of the fastener will be attached. It should be 1 cm narrower than the wider part, and the length is 4.5 cm. This is 0.5 cm less than the valve itself;
  • Sew on the clasp. The length of the Velcro should be in line with the dimensions of the front part of the key holder. It should be fixed to a piece of thick cloth. To form stitches using an awl, we make holes in the leather. The Velcro should be 2 mm from the edge. The main and mating part is sewn on. The latter is to the inside of the valve;
  • We apply decoration. The product can be decorated with embroidery or decoupage. The applique also looks beautiful;
  • We connect the inside of the valve with the main part. We make holes along the perimeter of the product with a step of 3 mm. We sew from the inside on a sewing machine or by hand using a "forward needle" seam;
  • Cut out a narrow strip of leather with which the keys will be attached. Sew one end to the bottom corner. We fold the other end in the form of a loop and fix it. The ring will be used to attach the key ring.

Making a wall key holder

You can make a wall key holder with your own hands in different ways. One of the options may be to use a bitch of any tree. Preference should be given to oak, larch or other wood. It is advisable to choose a blank in the original form. The works are performed in the following sequence:

Photo Description

Sand the piece of wood with emery. It is advisable to completely get rid of the bark, as it can cause insects to appear.

We drill the required number of holes in the piece of wood, which will be used to attach the hooks and fix the finished product to the wall. The hole diameter is selected to be smaller than the hook thread diameter.

With the help of stain, the finished product is given the desired tone. After the composition has dried, the raised fibers are removed from the tinted surface using fine sandpaper.
The surface is coated with varnish, which gives the product its characteristic shine. Depending on the desired result, preference can be given to a matte or glossy composition. The choice will depend on the desired shine. We attach the key holder to the wall and screw in the hooks.

The housekeeper in the hallway with her own hands from a piece of wood will look beautiful in or. For those decorated in a modern style, this option may not be the best choice. Various patterns applied by electric burning can be used as decoration. Other options are also possible. For example, drawing a picture.

We decorate using decoupage technique

You can decorate the wall key holder with your own hands using the decoupage technique as follows:

A table is being prepared on which the work will be performed. The tabletop can be covered with an old oilcloth or a standard trash bag. A blank of a decorated key holder, white acrylic paint, a sponge is being prepared.

Dip the sponge into the paint and paint the workpiece with the help of blotting movements. Using a sponge instead of a brush allows you to give the surface a unique texture. If there are unpainted areas, you can use a brush. As a rule, the area at the point of attachment of the hooks is painted in this way.

Let the workpiece dry. Do not leave paint on your hands. It takes about an hour for the painted surface to dry completely. Apply the second layer and let the product dry for two hours. If the formed layer turns out to be heterogeneous, in some places the base is visible - another layer of acrylic paint should be applied.

We prepare an adhesive composition consisting of an equal amount of water and PVA glue. With its help, the napkin will be glued to the base.

Preparing a napkin. If it is three-layer, separate the top layer. The rest will not be required for work. Extreme care should be taken not to damage the decor.
Using a fan-shaped brush, apply the adhesive to the key holder. Gently glue the napkin in the direction from the middle. Carefully tear off the excess. Apply an additional layer of glue along the edges. Leave it to dry completely.

Apply a layer of acrylic varnish with a brush. Let the layer dry. To ensure a sufficient level of protection for the formed decor, a minimum of five layers of varnish should be applied. This will reliably fix the pattern on the surface and give the surface a characteristic shine. To give clarity to the formed contour, black acrylic paint can be applied to the edges of the product. After complete drying, the unevenness on the surface of the product can be removed with sandpaper, and then reapplied several layers of varnish.
