What can be done from car drives. How you can use old disks: master classes for crafts from CD and DVD. Ideas for giving

The popularity of CDs is declining. Today, miniature flash media are pushing them out of our lives. But don't get rid of old drives. Laser carriers are a fertile material for decorating walls, furniture, creating garden miniatures for summer cottages, as well as for children's creativity.

Getting started, you should be careful and attentive so as not to get hurt. Cutting tools should be large and sharp.

If in the process it becomes necessary to heat the vinyl, it should be done outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, and also keep a container of water near at hand so that in the event of a material ignite, extinguish the fire.

What can be done from CDs

A napkin holder, coasters for stationery and hot dishes, a sparkling ball, a candlestick, New Year's toys - this is just a part of what you can do from disks with your own hands. All these things do not require large investments, and the process of their manufacture does not take much time.

Shining ball

The disco ball is perhaps the most successful example of

Tools and materials:

  • foam ball;
  • unnecessary disks;
  • glue;
  • scissors.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Use scissors to cut the media into freeform pieces.
  2. Lubricate the workpiece with glue and cover the surface with sparkling fragments.
  3. When the glue is dry, you can hang the disco ball under the ceiling.

An unforgettable atmosphere at the party is guaranteed!

Napkin holder

A napkin holder is not just a serving item, but also a stylish table decoration that you can make yourself.

You will need:

  • carriers - 3 pcs;
  • large beads;
  • glue gun;
  • stationery knife;
  • a mock-up rug or a piece of laminate.

Since the base will be a whole disc, you should start with the preparation of the holders. Cut off ¼ part of the discs with a knife as shown in the photo.

Attach the sides to the base with a pistol.

Start decorating. Glue a string of beads along the joint - this will close all the flaws of the glue seam. Decorate the napkin holder with beads at random.

Other decoration options are also possible. For example, using decoupage technique.

You can use floristic techniques.

Or you can decorate the napkin holder with stickers and miniature figurines.

Hot coasters

Continuing the kitchen theme - hot coasters.

For work, prepare:

  • floppy disks;
  • cardboard;
  • scissors;
  • PVA glue and "Titan";
  • alcohol;
  • fine-grained sandpaper;
  • napkins with pictures;
  • putty;
  • acrylic primer and varnish.

How to make

Cut a circle of the appropriate diameter from the cardboard.

Spread all the components with glue.

Build a "sandwich" of them, as shown below.

Pack in files. If several coasters are made at once, then they must be put separately.

Send to press. Once everything is dry, putty the hole and the ends of the "sandwiches".

Thoroughly grind the surface with sandpaper, degrease with alcohol, prime.

Dilute PVA with water in a 1: 1 ratio. Glue a napkin with this solution. Leave to dry.

After drying, walk along the edge of the stand with sandpaper, removing excess napkin.

To varnish. Since hot dishes are placed on the stand, it is advisable to choose a heat-resistant varnish.

Interesting models are obtained from felt, inside of which a DVD-disk is sewn - for rigidity.

Laying the mosaic on the flower pot

Flower pots decorated with mosaics made from old CDs look luxurious.

In addition to disks, you will need:

  • scissors;
  • glue gun;
  • stained glass paint.

Cut the laser plates into pieces.

Glue mosaic fragments to the degreased surface of the planter so that the distance between them is minimal. Let the glue dry.

At the end of the work, carefully paint over the seams.

You can cover the entire area of the flowerpot with mosaics.

Watch

It's a great idea to make a clock from a discarded CD and a keyboard.

You will also need to work:

  • Super glue;
  • clockwork mechanism with hands.

Take out the function keys, that is, those labeled F1, F2, and so on. There are 12 of them in total, just that much is needed. Apply a time-indexing scale to the disc. Fix the keys with glue according to the resulting marking.

Install the clockwork and hands. Insert the battery. And the clock is ticking!

Photo frame

An original decoration of the room will be a photograph, framed in a sparkling frame.

To implement the idea, you need:

  • cardboard - 2 sheets;
  • PVA glue;
  • disks;
  • scissors;
  • glass contour;
  • ruler;
  • pencil.

Draw the outlines of the frame on one sheet of cardboard. Cut it out.

Use scissors to turn the discs into rainbow shards.

Grease the frame liberally with glue.

Place the pieces of the mosaic with tweezers.

Leave to dry for 3-4 hours.

Draw a contour along all joints, not forgetting about the edges of the frame.

Let the paint dry. Connect the frame and the backdrop, leaving one side not glued - the image will be inserted here.

It remains to place the photo and hang it on the wall.

Christmas toys

It is better to create New Year's decorations together with the children. This is an opportunity not only to acquire a number of unique toys, but also to have fun working together.

It is best to invite the child to make the favorite character of the animated series "Smeshariki".

All you need for this:

  • colored paper and cardboard;
  • glue;
  • pattern;
  • paints (if necessary);
  • scissors;
  • unnecessary blanks.

How to make

Find your favorite character image on the Internet. Cut out parts of the face, hair, flowers, glasses from paper - everything a cartoon character needs. Then cut out the handles, legs, ears from the cardboard.

Glue all the elements on the disc. To make facial features more expressive, outline the details with a black felt-tip pen or marker. Glue the loop on the back and you can hang the craft on the Christmas tree.

The principle of making the next toy is the same.

Prepare:

  • a set of New Year's paper decor - snowflakes, stars;
  • postcard;
  • scissors;
  • some glue.

Cut a circle out of a card you like. Glue the fragment to the disk, add a frame of snowflakes in a circle.

One row is positioned to hide the outline of the cut element. The second is closer to the center. A puncture is carefully made with a hot awl, a ribbon is inserted, and a bow is tied. The Christmas tree toy is ready.

Christmas decorations from old discs will look harmonious on a large tree. If the Christmas tree is miniature, then crafts are used to create a festive atmosphere in the interior.

The installation on the wall in the form of a Christmas tree looks spectacular and unusual.

And if you hang a sparkling owl on the door, then it will definitely not go unnoticed!

Ideas for inspiration

When decorating New Year's crafts, you can use the technique of beading or isothread.

Or you can decorate them in an original way using decoupage technique or photographs from an album.

Tiebacks for curtains

Another useful little thing for the house can be made from vinyl circles - a curtain hook.

One grab will require:

  • disc - one piece;
  • bamboo stick for rolls - one piece;
  • a piece of whatman paper;
  • tape 2.5 cm wide - about three meters;
  • rhinestones, half beads - three pieces;
  • hot glue gun;
  • candle or lighter;
  • tweezers;
  • needle and thread;
  • scissors.

Decorating technique

Cut out the inner part of the plate so that you get a donut.

Stick one end of the tape to the ring and braid around it. The turns are superimposed on each other so that the base does not show through.

When the entire surface is braided, cut off the excess tape, fixing it on the wrong side.

Go to floral elements. Cut the tape into pieces about 8 cm long. Singe the ends of each so that they do not crumble.

Fold the petal as shown in the pictures.

This is what the front side looks like. There should be 15 such petals in total.

With the help of a thread and a needle, collect three flowers, five petals in each.

Decorate the middle with rhinestones or half beads.

Collect everything into a single composition.

Using the kanzashi technique, you can create many different holders for curtains - just master the basic techniques.

If the ribbon is replaced with jute twine or sequin fabric, then completely different models will come out.

Candlestick

There is something mystical and bewitching in the candle flame, you just can't take your eyes off the flickering light! A matching candlestick will only emphasize the romantic and mysterious atmosphere.

Add to the already known instrumental set:

  • a pill candle;
  • a can of drinks;
  • decorations (cones, shells, pebbles, large beads, artificial flowers and others).

Cut off the bottom of the jar, set a candlestick in the center of it on the plate. Arrange the decor in a circle: cones, beads. Lubricate the cones with glue, sprinkle with artificial snow. You can paint the tips with gold or silver paint, and lay a "rain" around the perimeter of the circle.

Changing the scenery, you can make a candlestick for any theme: sea, for the 8th of March, in an oriental style, and just for a romantic dinner.

Country ideas

The dacha should be beautiful. This is a place where body and soul take a break from the bustle of the city. As a rule, all the trash accumulated in the apartment moves here, and vinyl rounds are no exception. Crafts from them can be used in the country house.

You can make an apron for the kitchen using mosaic technique.

Likewise, it is possible to transform a coffee table.

Rainbow circles make an interesting garden scarecrow or bathroom curtain holders.

You can make a window curtain.

And if you have talent and patience, then real landscape miniatures.

If you accidentally find 3.5-inch floppy disks in the closet, you can also use them. Just to begin with, you need to prepare in a certain way: lower the protective cap and pierce holes with a hot awl in the corners of the floppy.

You will get a blank with holes through which the floppy disks will be connected to each other. Wire, clamps, metal rings are used as connecting elements; for greater strength of the seams, it is advisable to go through with super glue.

You can, for example, make a stand for stationery.

From a larger number of three-inch boxes, a box or chest for small things will come out.

By changing the assembly configuration, you can get a stylish lampshade.

All of this is just a fraction of the DIY CDs. The main thing is not to limit your imagination.

Mini sharpener from an old hard drive

Do not throw away any sprinkled hard disk (hard disk). He can be given a second life in the form of a knife sharpener and scissors.

For this, in addition to the hard drive, you will need:

  • power supply unit from a PC (personal computer);
  • connector where power will be connected;
  • sandpaper;
  • a screwdriver for disassembling a hard drive;
  • wires;
  • soldering iron.

Remove all stickers from the hard drive, unscrew all the bolts, remove the pancakes. Remove all unnecessary components, leaving only the motor, spindle and logic board.

Attach one pancake to the sandpaper, circle it with a pencil, cut along the contour. Lubricate the circle with glue, glue. Put the pancake on the spindle, fasten it. Supply power from a computer power supply unit (power supply unit).

The mini sharpener is ready for use.

Products from old car rims

Over time, every car owner has obsolete rims. They usually collect dust in the garage. But from them you can make a solid brazier with removable supports for a country house.

Required tools and materials:

  • car drive;
  • metal rods with thread at the ends;
  • nuts;
  • a piece of square mesh - 400 x 400 mm;
  • sheet of metal 5 mm thick - 250 x 250 mm;
  • welding machine.

Weld a sheet onto the bottom of the disc. This is necessary so that hot coals do not wake up through its large holes.

Install the nuts on the legs (do not tighten completely, so as not to accidentally weld the racks, and they could be removable). Weld to their locations on the structure.

Turn over the brazier. Place the grid on the disk, circle with a marker. Cut off all excess with a grinder.

Place the net in the designated place.

In the video you can see how to make a brazier stove from old rims.

The following video showcases 35 DIY examples from old DVDs, from simple miniatures to garden sculptures.

Another video review of crafts from old laser plates: 40 simple but original ideas.

Another folk craftsman, who decided to try his hand at the production of alloy wheels, deserves our attention. In order to make such discs, he used the old junk that was lying around in his garage, and some other materials.

For the disks, raw materials were needed, it was the ZMZ-402 engine block made of AK4 casting alloy, as well as other engine parts, a cooking oven, a crucible (a seamless pipe with a welded bottom can fit), ordinary charcoal, flasks (wooden frames for shaping) , sifted sand and silicate glue.

First, we mix liquid glass with sand and glue. It is best to use a construction mixer. Then we take an impression from the workpiece, leaving a margin for turning work. Leave the cast to dry for several days. We make a fire, put a crucible on a high heat, add more coal and turn on the blowing. Pour liquid aluminum into a mold. When the metal hardens, we beat off the crust, sprues and gaps. We send discs for turning. Then we assemble the disk, for this you can use 10 M8 screws with an internal hexagon and 10 M8 nuts with a nylon ring.

A stove made of disks from car wheels is capable of heating a room up to 15-16 sq. m, a sauna stove or become an inexpensive efficient cooking appliance, which, in fact, is this article about. Its main advantage is the availability of high quality material - thick, resistant and durable steel. Boiler steel in sheets and profiles is expensive, and the usual structural steel in the furnace structure quickly burns out.

The additional advantage of the disc oven can be seen from experience. Take two pieces of metal of roughly the same size and weight, one made of plain steel, and the other cut from a rim, and heat it harder, at least in the kitchen on gas. From the first one will immediately smell of hot iron, and the second one can be heated to orange (about 900 degrees), without feeling anything unpleasant in the air. A stove made of wheel disks practically does not dry the air and does not emit harmful vapors into the atmosphere, because wheel disks are made of special steels that are resistant to corrosion. Of course, they are not standardized for heat resistance, but the stock of resistance that is laid in them is quite enough for a wood-burning coal stove.

What you need to know about disks

The furnace is being worked off. made using car rims. Don't do that!

To make a furnace from disks with your own hands, you need to know not only the advantages, but also the disadvantages of the source material and some, significant in this case, the features of the design of furnaces. The disadvantage of special steel is that it is not standardized for welding properties. There are several technologies for the production of wheel disks, but welding for this, if used, is very limited, followed by thermal tempering (annealing) and seam flaw detection. And, of course, no vehicle designer assumes that something will be welded to the wheels during operation.

Hence follows a very important conclusion from the point of view of safety: from the disks (see Fig.), As well as from the pyrolysis ones, you can not do it in any case! Unless you really want that at one not at all perfect moment boiling, most likely, and burning oil flow through the crack in the seam or chemically aggressive highly toxic gases begin to be released. And it is impossible to extinguish the indicated furnaces, they must burn out completely. Only a solid fuel fired furnace can be made of discs.

Note: welds for special operating conditions that are not properly monitored for quality are considered unreliable. Welded vessels operating under pressure, heat and for chemically aggressive contents, which have not passed defectoscopy and after testing in the operating mode of use, are a priori recognized as unsuitable. Any oven meets at least two of these conditions.

Nevertheless, it is quite possible to make a completely safe solid fuel stove from car wheels for welding for non-residential premises (the country house also belongs to them), if you follow the trace. regulations:

  1. The weld seam must be visually high-quality, without visible defects - cracks, splashes, cavities, bubbles, see fig. on right;
  2. Only two mating parts can be welded at a time; in no case should the entire structure be welded at once!
  3. After each seam has been routed, the welded parts must be allowed to rest to dissipate residual internal stresses, approx. from 3 minutes for each kilogram of mass of the connected parts. Practically - cook further no earlier than when, 3-4 cm from the end of the seam, you can touch the metal with your bare hand;
  4. The finished furnace, after one day's exposure to dissipate the same voltages, is subjected to a test run, from 3 hours stationary and from an hour portable outdoor, at full power, i.e. with a fully open air throttle (if equipped) or a combustion / blower door, and a maximum fuel load.

During the test run, the furnace is annealed at the same time. The detected small welding defects, no more than 2 per seam, are eliminated after a day, after which the furnace run with annealing is repeated.

Note: the modulus of the thermal expansion coefficient of TCR steel for autodiscs is significantly less than that of structural steels. Why is understandable, but this circumstance also needs to be borne in mind when making a furnace, see below.

What you need to know about ovens

When making a stove from car disks, you need to be aware of one more circumstance. According to the rules of construction of solid fuel combustion furnaces from the hearth or grate, i.e. from the place where the fuel is placed, to the first vertical obstacle to the flow of flue gases (for example, the arch of the furnace) should be at least 40-50 cm if conditioned fuel is loaded into the stove. If it is wet or junk, the indicated distance should be increased to 60-80 cm; the heating time of the furnace will then increase. The latter is unimportant for furnaces made of discs, since they warm up quickly.

The reason is that hot pyrolysis gases are released from solid fuel, contributing a significant, or even decisive, share to the heat release. If pyrolysis gases come into contact with a less heated surface, they will not be able to burn out and soot will fall out. With further use of such a stove, it will coke up - a dense carbon deposit forms on the roof of the furnace and in the chimney. It not only reduces the thermal efficiency of the furnace (analogous to the efficiency in the furnace business), but is also fire hazardous.

Note: a high firebox for raw fuel is made so that the pyrolysis gases and water vapor have time to separate, and the first ones also burn out before they reach the arch. In this case, the fuel is loaded no more than half the height of the furnace.

Furnaces made of discs are very often operated precisely on waste fuel (rotten dry wood, damp scraps, etc.), but at the same time, there may not be enough unusable discs for a high furnace, or the optimal furnace scheme in this case (see below ) will not allow you to make a high firebox. Then you can make a stove from discs by using a non-standard grate made of steel sheet from 6 mm and reinforcing rods from 10 mm. There is no need to fear that there is not enough air for combustion: through a hole with a diameter of 10 cm, with a chimney with a height of 1.5 m, it will pass enough for a power of 18 kW on wood and 30 kW on coal. A stove made of discs will never develop such a thing.

The non-standard grate is simply inserted into the oven with a gap of approx. 6-10 mm, due to the difference in TCR of materials, see above. This design has one more advantage - the problem of the ash pan is solved, which is quite serious for furnaces made of discs. In this case, a tin can with a diameter of 15 cm or more is simply substituted under the ash.

Note: horizontal ovens made of discs (see below) for the same purpose are made without grooves, i.e. the fuel burns at the bottom of the furnace, and the air flow is regulated by a throttle in the blower. The durability of steel for discs makes it possible to apply such a solution.

What kind of oven to make?

Based on the foregoing, the possibilities of self-manufacturing the oven from autodiscs can be decomposed on the shelves in this way:

  • When it is desirable and necessary, tk. the use of autodiscs makes it possible to improve the quality of the furnace and / or to simplify its manufacture.
  • When it is possible for the main (heat) parts of the furnace structure instead of expensive heat-resistant steel.
  • When possible, in part, as a sufficiently resistant material at hand.
  • When it is impossible in any - discussed above.

When you need

The best use of autodiscs for the stove is in mobile (portable) outdoor and garden cooking stoves and as a firelight for a fire. In the simplest furnace-hearth made of discs, a large mass and height of the side (disc rim) is used for summer cottages, which makes it possible to stabilize heat transfer and gives some protection from the wind. How to make a simple summer cottage and garden stove from a car drive, see the video:

Video: mini garden oven from car drives

For cauldron

However, the best use of autodiscs in garden ovens is under the cauldron. The stove made of disks for the cauldron is completely round, namely, in the corners of the brick oven under the cauldron, the cooking utensils are heated weaker, and soot settles there. The disk oven provides absolutely uniform heating of the cauldron and saves firewood, which is very important when using waste fuel. The branches and chips collected on the site and in the vicinity may not be enough for pilaf or beshbarmak to ripen as expected. And damp and rotten fuel in a massive brick firebox simply will not warm up the cooking vessel to the required degree. In the oven under the cauldron, both are excluded from autodisks, but - we emphasize - if done correctly.

Flue gases follow the path of least resistance. If you just weld 2 discs and cut a furnace hole from the side, then hot gases will go through the technological (to facilitate construction) holes in the disc hub, pos. 1 in Fig. their total area is larger than the bolt and axle, and they are lower. If the stove is turned on at maximum, then, perhaps, a tongue of flame will appear from the axial hole, pos. 2, but with a cauldron on the burner of such an oven, all the heat will again go sideways to no avail, pos. 3, or if you try to plug some of the technical holes, or add fuel, the flame will burst out of the loading door, pos. 4. On such a stove, food cooked by simmering over coals is good, pos. 5, but not everyone cooks that way.

The correct stove for a cauldron of discs must, firstly, be equipped with a tightly closing door on the loading opening. Secondly, the cauldron should sit in the burner cutout, partially overlapping the technological holes in the hub, pos. 6. This is easy to achieve: you need to cut out the middle of the hub with a grinder, as shown in pos. 7. The remainder will not be lost - it will make an excellent grate. How to make a garden stove under a cauldron from car wheel disks, see also video

Video: oven under a cauldron from discs

BBQ option

It is not necessary to cut the core of the disc hub, except for simmering on coals, in the case when a garden barbecue oven is made from discs. Then a grate is placed on the burner - a flame divider, which will at the same time be a culinary grate-grill. The advantage of this design is that several different temperature zones are formed on the rasp, pos. 1 in fig. on the right, which makes it possible, for example, to cook at the same time rare roast beef (half-baked with blood), medium (juicy, moderately baked, like a kebab), and well done (fried until crispy). If there is a company at a picnic, everyone will get everyone at the same time according to their taste. It is advisable to make such a furnace from discs with a small number of wide technological holes in the hub, for example. from the Gazelle. The grille is made from bicycle spokes. There is no need to cook them: they are perfectly connected with heat-resistant glue for metal (cold welding).

Note: stoves without a furnace door are sometimes made from discs of the same type (item 2 in the figure on the right), placing not thick wood chips through the holes in the hub during the fire. But the stove turns out to be gluttonous and poorly cooked. Why - see above.

When you can completely

Completely from discs, a heating stove-potbelly stove turns out well. A plus in this case will be its large heat capacity and heat transfer time - the metal of the case is thick - although, of course, not the same as in cast iron, and a slight increase in efficiency. The downside is the higher labor intensity of manufacturing improved furnaces of increased efficiency due to the complex configuration of the body.

If there is enough waste fuel, then a stove-stove made of discs for heating a small room can be made without internal partitions-dividers (see below) horizontal, pos. 1 in fig. It is highly desirable to make such a furnace from truck disks: firstly, a larger furnace volume will increase its efficiency and heat transfer time. Secondly, due to the complex surface of the disc rim, the area of the heat-generating outer surface can be one and a half to two times larger than that of a simple round of the same volume from a barrel or. The same circumstance, together with the high corrosion resistance of car wheel disks, makes it possible to equip the furnace with a jacket for water heating, see for example. track. plot:

Video: potbelly stove made of jacketed discs

Horizontal potbelly stoves are cumbersome, so they often make vertical ones. If we are talking about a stove made of discs, then, firstly, you need to take care of a grate and ash pan suitable for it, see above. Coals and hot ash cannot be poured directly onto the fire-prevention blind area!

As for the heat engineering qualities, they can be improved in two ways. The first one is when a quick warm-up of the room is required, and the heat transfer time is insignificant, for example, if the stove is placed in a garage. Then its upper, flue, part is surrounded by an annular casing made of thin steel (not galvanized! Zinc melts at 440 degrees, and its vapors are poisonous!), With a gap of 40-60 mm, pos. 2 in Fig. The potbelly stove thus turns into a heater-heater. But, by the way, a horizontal disc heating stove will be much more efficient, see below.

The second method is used when, on the contrary, it is necessary to increase the heat transfer time after the firebox, for example, in a country house inhabited from spring to autumn. To do this, you need to cover the furnace in any available way with materials that combine high heat capacity and thermal conductivity. Stoatite (talcochlorite) stove stone is expensive, but fireclay brick (item 3) will completely replace it. In extreme cases, you can put a heavier and denser wild stone on the hob, pos. 4. If the stove consists of 4 cargo disks, the fuel completely burns out and the view closes by midnight, then in a tracksuit under an army blanket he sleeps peacefully until 6-7 o'clock in the morning. You can sleep well.

We will improve the stove from disks

It is possible to increase the thermal efficiency of any potbelly stove by installing cut-off partitions inside. Thus, an afterburner chamber is formed. In this case, the air casing, which converts the stove into a heater, also increases the efficiency of the furnace.

Diagrams of the device of stoves from disks are given in Fig. The vertical simple (pos. 1) is more compact, somewhat more efficient than the horizontal (pos. 3) and gives a hob, but it is more difficult to put the afterburner chamber cut-off (pos. 2) into it, because in this case, it must be welded to it along the entire contour adjacent to the furnace body. However, a vertical potbelly stove with a single-turn afterburner reaches an efficiency of slightly more than 60%. A simple horizontal potbelly stove (pos. 3) is the worst in all respects, but quite efficient ovens are made on its basis. The leading value for the development of modifications is the smallest inner diameter of the fuel chamber d.

Note: to weld the potbelly body from the autodisks, their hubs are cut out completely, see fig. on right.

Dimensional ratios for potbelly stoves from disks with one- and two-turn afterburners are given in pos. 4 and 5. Efficiency for both approx. 60%, but the 2-turn saves it on waste fuel, and the single-turn one needs high quality to ensure the highest possible thermal efficiency. It is not necessary to cut out the cutter (steel from 4 mm) exactly along the inner contour of the furnace body: in its blank, you only need to select the holes so that there is a gap between the cutter and the body wall of approx. 1.5 cm. Pos. 4a. Then the afterburner will become a self-adjusting approach (furnace mode) of the furnace and it will keep the efficiency close to maximum, both at low speed and at full speed. A similar solution is used in Buleryan ovens, but holes are punched in the cutter for this. In mass production, this is more profitable: the cutter is still cut down in one stroke of the press punch, and metallurgists are willingly buying metal waste as high-quality raw materials for open-hearth furnaces. Well, at home it is easier to leave a gap along the edges of the shutter.

A horizontal potbelly stove made of disks with an afterburner will generally be equal in efficiency to Buleryan if it is equipped with an air casing with a slotted nozzle at the top and an air intake skirt at the bottom, pos. 5a. The casing must adhere to the outside of the body, and the formed channels will act in the same way as in Buleryan or ovens Engineer Butakov, Fire-Battery, etc.

Note: in the chimneys of high-performance stoves made of discs (pos. 2 and 5) there must be a condensate collector with a drain valve, because flue gases come out of them slightly warm.

On the basis of a horizontal potbelly stove, a full-fledged heating boiler can be made from disks, pos. 6. If you weld its flame body from KAMAZ disks, you can accelerate to a heat output of approx. 40 kW, and this is enough to heat an ordinary residential building.

However, make the heat exchanger body from discs of the same size, pos. 1 in Fig., Is irrational: then it will be necessary to install a fire-tube heat sink, which is structurally complex and requires periodic repair, pos. 2. It is better to weld the heat exchanger body from discs of smaller size, for example. from a car. The temperature in it will then rise to values that allow the use of a water-tube heat sink. Of the preventive measures, it only requires an annual pressure test in order to pressurize the system before starting and inspect after it.

The water-tube heat sink is a frequent one-piece coil through which the coolant flows. The distance between the branches is equal to the outer diameter of the pipe; branches are staggered. It is possible to make a water-tube heat receiver for a heat exchanger of a home boiler from discs from a copper tube with a clearance of 20 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm. In this case, the input-output of the heat receiver into the heat exchanger is sealed with cold welding.

Furnace partially made of discs

As components, autodiscs are widely used in sauna stoves. A sauna stove made of discs can be built as a whole, but only for a sauna of a barely average level. In a Russian bath, steam from any all-metal stove is harsh.

What a stove looks like in a bath, built using car wheel disks, is shown in Fig. rights, and the complete diagram of its device is given in Fig. below. The main thing that this furnace provides for the proper quality of steam is a brick firebox. Autodiscs are used as a container for the contents of a closed heater and for the manufacture of a water tank.

Note: it is possible to build a home-made sauna stove with an open stove only of a special construction entirely made of bricks, which provides complete, up to carbon dioxide and water vapor, afterburning of the exhaust gases from the firebox before they come to the stove. Branded metal sauna stoves with an open stove are made for this from special materials using sophisticated technology. If you try to repeat this on your own from ordinary materials, a cloud of soot will fly out of the heater with each water injection.

This sauna stove has already been repeated by many lovers of steam in their bathhouse. In general, everyone is happy; only one persistent defect was noticed: the lower cutter (details of the Brace and the Reflector on the right in the figure) after a year or two twists and breaks off from the struts, or braces from the body. The reason is obvious: different TKR steel of the specified parts and the body from the autodisk. To eliminate the defect, it seems that the cutter must also be made from a smaller disk, for example, a passenger one. Most of the rim should be cut out, leaving 4 legs. Then heat the transition points of the rim into the hub and bend the legs to size.

There is no need to weld holes in the hub. Due to heat transfer to the body, the cutter will be slightly colder than the flue gases. Since the hub is convex, a gas lock forms under it, like a gas view in a bell-type stove, like in a bad garden stove made of discs, see above, and the flue gases will still flow around the bottom of the stove, as shown by the arrows in the diagram.

Combi option

Dozens of unsuitable wheel disks from amateurs do not roll around in garages, but wear out, as a rule, in pairs, either front or rear. In this case, in order to make a sufficiently efficient stove with a high firebox out of the discs, a pair of discs will need to be supplemented with a piece of steel pipe of a suitable diameter with walls from 6 mm.

The device of the furnace from 2 disks from car wheels is shown in Fig. it does not differ in anything special from those described above. The same oven can be made horizontal. For the design of the hotplate, see above.

A construction such as a barbecue made of car disks is an excellent option for reusing waste materials. Such a device is simple to perform, and therefore you can do it yourself. Despite the simplest design, there are enough ways to use the product; it can even replace a complex barbecue model.

Design features

A brazier made independently from a wheel disk has a lot of positive characteristics. This design allows you to acquire a full-fledged grill complex with minimal costs for its manufacture. All materials are quite affordable for almost any summer resident. In addition, they guarantee the durability of the product and its strength under any operating conditions. Another plus is the compactness of the barbecue. Its distinctive features and execution options are worth talking in more detail.

Materials used

In order to make a brazier from discs, it will not require large costs, since almost improvised materials are used for its manufacture. Already used up car disks are usually thrown away or given away for a penny for scrap. At the same time, many ways of their alternative use are not taken into account, among which the manufacture of a barbecue is one of the best options.

For a summer residence or a private house, a barbecue is considered a mandatory attribute. Manufacturing from old discs saves money, since ready-made models are often inferior to this option in terms of their capabilities in relation to the cost.

The onset of the cold season leads to the need for heating or the creation of simply comfortable microclimate parameters in garages or auxiliary buildings in living conditions outside the city. This problem becomes especially urgent in conditions of impossibility to carry out centralized heating.

Please note: almost every motorist has at least one unnecessary old wheel. Otherwise, you can find suitable material from friends, neighbors in the garage, or buy it out for a small amount at a service station or from your hands.

The advantage of using discs to create a grill is the thickness of the metal. Even worn-out wheels will be suitable for this kind of further use. The metal does not fade or deform, and their shape is ideal for creating complex products for charcoal cooking.

Principle of operation

According to the principle of operation, a brazier made of rims is similar to some other home-made models, for example, made from a barrel or a cylinder. It combines the following features:

  • grill - allows you to cook on skewers or a removable wire rack;
  • barbecue - for frying steaks, complemented by a lid that creates an oven effect;
  • hob - the shape and diameter of the disc allows you to put a boiler, frying pan or saucepan on the fire;
  • smokehouse - some models allow hot smoking of products.

The principle of operation is extremely simple. Firewood or ready-made coals are loaded into the lower part. A lattice is installed on top or skewers are stacked. The dishes can also be placed on the wire rack or directly on the wheel, if their diameters are compatible. The heat from below warms up the air and allows you to cook like on a regular grill. For smoking, you need to close the upper exit and ensure that the chips are smoldering so that smoke is formed.

Each design is thought out individually, adjusting to the needs of the owners. Nevertheless, the bulk of the work on the manufacture of the product remains the same for all models.

Execution options

In more detail, you need to consider the possible options for the product. If you want to make a brazier from car disks, you need to pay attention to the following models:

  • A simple grill. The wheel is a container for coal, on which skewers or a grate are placed (We recommend that you study the material on our website).

The simplest option is a barbecue for skewers

  • Double construction. 2 wheels are used, thanks to which the barbecue becomes higher. Due to this, the cauldron can be placed on top. Heating from all sides allows you to cook delicious dishes in it, as in the oven or to stew them.
  • Closed oven. It allows you to smoke food, as the smoke is collected inside the chamber and is removed in a small amount through special openings.
  • Complex models. It combines all 4 product functions described earlier. Additionally, other useful elements can be mounted, for example, a chimney.

It is also worth noting that such a grill can be made with or without legs. The stand is needed for single models, but in double and triple models, the lower disc performs its function. At the same time, there are restrictions on the use of the structure, because damp earth can prevent the formation of heat, and hot metal is not allowed to come into contact with the wooden floor on the terrace.

We make a brazier from discs ourselves

In order to independently make a brazier from autodisks, you need to think over the scheme of the future product in advance. Decide on the amount of consumables, prepare the tools. To perform quality work, you must have the skills to use a grinder for cutting metal, as well as a welding machine.

Preparation of materials and necessary tools

In order to make a brazier from wheel disks with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • old autodisks;
  • Bulgarian;
  • metal cutting nozzle;
  • a disc for cleaning rust in the form of an iron brush;
  • file;
  • drill;
  • hammer;
  • bolts;
  • profiled pipes or steel bar;
  • grill grill.

The grinder and the welding machine are the main tools when working with metal

All these tools will be needed to process and connect brazier parts. It is convenient to make legs from profiled pipes and rods. In total, you will need 3-4 pieces.

Tip: it is better to make 4 supports for greater stability of the product. The tripod may fall to one side when placed on an uneven surface.

You need to prepare the wheels themselves in advance. If there are traces of rust and paint, the surface is cleaned with a metal brush using a grinder or drill. All unnecessary is cut off.

Simple option

Several options for making such grill structures should be considered. You need to start with the simplest thing - a single brazier made from a wheel disc on legs. In order to make it, you will initially need to carry out a number of manipulations with the disk itself:

  1. On one side, the inner part is cut out - the partition. A pot-like container is formed.
  2. If there are too many holes in the bottom or if they are large enough for coals to spill through them, you need to weld on an additional plate. It is not necessary to completely close the gaps, since the coals must be blown through to maintain the heat.
  3. Legs are welded on the sides to the bottom or closer to the top. Usually they are made 40-45 cm in length. This height of the barbecue is optimal, as it ensures the stability of the structure and ease of use.

Further, if necessary, you need to clean the sections so that there are no sharp edges. You can additionally install a grill. It is not necessary to weld it; it is more profitable to use removable parts. Also, for the convenience of maintaining heat and cleaning ash, you can make a window for firewood on the side of the disk. For transfer, the structure is equipped with handles, welded symmetrically on the sides of the wheel.

Tip: if you are using two or three wheels, you can limit yourself to welding metal bars to the bottom. In some cases, you can do without supports altogether.

Smoking chamber

It is more profitable to make such a grill from car disks, which can be used in different directions. For lovers of homemade balyk and sausages, a smokehouse will become an indispensable device. In order to turn old wheels into such a useful thing, you need to use at least two units of material.

The principle of operation is to connect two discs into a one-piece hollow structure. The top can be adapted for frying kebabs according to the principle of the previous model, but in order to preserve the smoke, you need to take care of the arrangement of the lid and the smoke extraction system. You can leave the partition with holes, which will simplify the task, and use the product as a hob.

Structural and functional features of the brazier-steam locomotive, the cost of the product, the selection of materials for self-production, the technology for assembling the structure.

In order to combine the two discs, it is necessary to cut off the partitions. Further, the wheels are joined and welded with a continuous seam to each other. Legs are welded to the bottom of the lower element. To provide access to the inside, a door is equipped. To make it, you need to go through the grinder approximately in the middle of the product and cut out a rectangle.

To fix the door, one nut is welded to it, symmetrically with respect to the weld. 1 bolt is also attached to the brazier by welding so that the door nuts can be put on them.

Advice: in order to fix the sash without any problems, the bolts are initially screwed into the already welded nuts. Then the door is applied to the opening and fixed on the structure itself.

Such homemade barbecues allow you to equip all conditions for rest with barbecue with minimal equipment costs. In addition, there is no need to apply any extra efforts, because all the stages of work are extremely clear and easy to implement.

It is difficult for car owners to part with old rims. What if they come in handy! And they lie in garages and dachas, and await their finest hour. And now it has come! There is a great idea to use rims under the barbecue. A specialist with golden hands will easily collect a useful thing for himself and will enjoy the quiet summer evenings with the aroma of fried kebabs or pilaf. The family is happy, money has been saved in the family budget. And if the master also has a good imagination, then amazing masterpieces are obtained from the wheels.

Peculiarities

To make a homemade barbecue from discs, you don't need to go somewhere to the market and buy expensive materials. All car owners have wheel disks. You can go to any auto repair shop, the craftsmen will be happy to provide you with a pair of former wheels. It is worth noting the durability of the material and strength. It is unlikely that you will find a dent or scratch on the disc due to the thickness of the metal.

The shape of the discs is ideal for turning into a brazier. Manufacturing works take just a couple of hours. Only materials at hand are used. The product is compact and can be easily moved. The design perfectly keeps the heat of the fire, not inferior to the products of well-known brands. This brazier can be used for other purposes as well. It will easily fit into the conditions of hunting or fishing, becoming a camping kitchen for a while. And here there is already a different assortment of dishes - fish soup, pilaf, stewed potatoes and much more.

The design of the firebox provides an air flow, which maintains the required heat temperature. Homemade grill is easy to clean after cooking. It does not burn out, withstanding fire for several hours.

Advantages and disadvantages

Even a child can figure out how the grill works. Coals are laid in the lower level. A traditional grill grid and dishes are placed on top. You can do without this, fry traditional meat on skewers.

The heat comes from below, the cooking conditions are the same as on the usual grill. When smoking, the upper outlet must be closed. This will allow the wood to smolder and smoke. Each owner makes a brazier for himself, but the main work on its manufacture remains common.

With all the pros, there are also downsides. One of them is low height. Cooking is too low. Traction may not be enough, and the brazier may simply fade out. Another disadvantage is the small volume of the firebox. Many users compare the design possibilities to camping bricks, which are used as skewer stands. But this, of course, is not entirely true.

Views

The world of homemade barbecues is diverse. Craftsmen turn barrels and cylinders into braziers.

The grill from autodiscs offers the following functionality:

  • cooking kebabs on skewers or a wire rack;
  • B-B-Q;
  • cooking in dishes. A cauldron is usually used;
  • smokehouse.

For a summer residence, such a barbecue is an ideal option.

The form

There are several options for making braziers. The simplest model is called a simple grill. Nothing complicated here. Coals are placed in the wheel, and on top everything is optional: skewers with barbecue or meat on the wire rack.

The double design has more possibilities. Due to the use of two wheels, the product becomes taller. A cauldron is placed on top. Uniform heating is in progress, which ensures extinguishing. You can smoke food in a closed oven. The smoke remains inside the structure and is discharged through a special vent.

There are universal models. You can do everything on them: kebabs, dishes in a cauldron, smoking. Such a grill can be with or without legs. For a barbecue with one disc, a stand is required. Double and triple barbecues may well do without it. The bottom disc becomes the same stand. There are restrictions when using such a barbecue. If the earth is after rain or snow, then it will interfere with the formation of heat. The grill should not be placed on a wooden floor.

Before making a barbecue, you need to think over its scheme, what functions you need to get from it. After determining the number of discs, you need to prepare the tools. You will need skills in owning a grinder and a welding machine.

Materials (edit)

Despite the simplicity of making the barbecue, there are questions about the choice of disks. Which car is the best to use? Finding wheels is not a problem. Any tire service company will gladly share their surplus autodisks. Experienced drivers find truck rims best suited. The best option is considered to be discs from a KAMAZ wheel. They are made of thick metal and will not burn out until 40 years. The same can be said about disks from any truck. But a disk, for example, from a minibus will last up to 20 years.

In principle, the wheels of any car are suitable for the role of a barbecue. It is made from stamped car discs. They are made from high quality steel. The service life of the barbecue depends on the fuel. The product burns out faster from coal.

The idea of a barbecue made of car disks quickly spread throughout the country and many began to think about its implementation.

Equipment

Before starting welding, it is necessary to revise everything you need.

Prepare the following equipment and tools:

  • rims;
  • iron brush for cleaning rust;
  • Bulgarian saw;
  • welding machine;
  • drill;
  • hammer;
  • bolts;
  • file;
  • metal cutting nozzle;
  • steel bar (profile pipes are possible).

The latter will go on legs under the barbecue. Four legs are recommended for stability. The tripod may collapse on an uneven surface. Rust must be removed from discs. The surface should be treated with a Bulgarian saw. Installation is carried out by welding.

How to assemble by yourself?

All work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations. Be sure to use personal protective equipment. When welding, the eyes should be covered with glasses or a mask, work should be performed only in special gloves. When working with a grinder, its disc must be held at right angles to the object. Otherwise, the disc may bite, and its fragments will fly. Carry out work only in special glasses.

It is worth starting with the simplest model - a single circle on a stand.

To create such a product, you must perform the following steps:

  • the inner partition is cut out. After which the workpiece becomes similar to a barrel;
  • there are discs with a large number of holes, then they must be closed;
  • weld the plate, but leave gaps for blowing out the coals;
  • on the sides of the bottom with the help of welding, it is necessary to fix the legs. Their optimal length is up to 45 cm;

  • then it is necessary to clean the sections. In the side part, make a window to watch the fire and clean the contents of the structure;
  • the frying net is best left removable;
  • it remains only to weld the handles. This will add comfort when using the barbecue.

Another option for a do-it-yourself grill is a smokehouse. Two disks are required. This option can be considered universal. On it you can cook not only kebabs, but also grill, stew food.

The work is simple and includes the following steps:

  • it is necessary to combine two parts into one;
  • in order for the smoke to remain, a cover and a drainage system are needed, therefore, a partition must be left in the upper disc;
  • the lower disc should be removed from the partition, using a welding machine to dock both discs to each other;
  • you need to weld the legs;
  • in the middle of the lower disc you need to make a door;
  • upon completion of the work, it is imperative to anneal the structure. This will clear it of gasoline and oil;
  • to make the product presentable, you need to cover it with a durable thermal paint.

Before that, you need to remove the remnants of rust. This can be done with a stiff brush or with a special drill attachment. It will not be superfluous to walk again on the sides of the barbecue with emery, then degrease and you can start painting.

You can come up with a lot of options with barbecues, especially in terms of design. All of them are original and always arouse interest. But how much sincere joy to others when they find out that the grill is made with their own hands from ordinary discs.
