What can you not do without in the summer in the country? Without a shovel, an anxious gardener will exclaim, without a laptop, an Internet resident will say. Respecting someone else's opinion, we still take a broader look at the problem. A hammock is what both a gardener and a lover of sitting in ICQ need. A two-hour sleep in this rocking bed completely restores a person after a working week. That's what psychotherapists say. So let's think about how to make a hammock with your own hands. In limbo, it is easier to look at the world philosophically, without taking annoying little things to heart.

  • For a hammock, the reliability of the supports is extremely important. The bed is usually hung between two trees or specially dug poles. In order not to wake up from a collision with the ground, we take metal pipes with a cross section of at least 86 mm, dig them in to a depth of 80 cm and concrete. Then the hanging resting place will not be afraid of the invasion of their own and neighboring children. Yes, and an adult can safely collapse into a hammock if the back no longer bends from weeding and dragging buckets.
  • Hang a hammock to give a meter and a half above the ground. The distance between the posts is calculated as follows: the length of the canvas plus 30 cm for the deflection. If there are already supports (two trees with a trunk thickness of at least 20 cm or swing posts), then we adjust the length of the hammock. You can tie it higher so that the deflection is deeper, stretch the canvas or loosen it - it depends on the distance between the supports.
  • For fastenings, we take strong synthetic ropes with a diameter of at least 8-10 mm. We are not too lazy to strengthen the fabric with eyelets, if the design of the hammock provides for them.
  • It is better to take natural fabric for a hammock - mattress teak, camouflage, tarpaulin. Synthetics are, of course, lighter, stronger and cheaper. But the body does not breathe in it, it sweats, and the hammock is still designed to provide comfort. In addition, natural material quickly takes the shape of the body.
  • For a wicker hammock, cotton cords are used. They tighten tighter, and the knots from them are more pleasant to the touch than slippery nylon ones. In those places where the rope can fray, you need to put on polyethylene tubes.

We sew a hammock

Preparatory work

Having decided to sew a hammock with our own hands, we prepare everything you need for this:

  1. Strong fabric (teak, calico, camouflage) 3 m long, 2.20 m wide.
  2. Sintepon - 0.5 m.
  3. Sling length 5.2 m, width 3 cm.
  4. Capron halyard with a section of 4 mm.
  5. A shovel handle (or any wooden beam of the same diameter).
  6. Sandpaper.
  7. Acrylic paint in the same color as the fabric.

Considering how to make a hammock comfortable for each family member, we focus on the tallest and most not offended by complexion. Therefore, we use the entire width of the material. If you could not find a suitable fabric with a width of 2.20 m, you will have to add a standard one and a half meter, so take more footage.

To work, you will need tools:

  • Ruler, pencil, chalk for drawing on fabric. It is better to buy a metal ruler once and for all, 1 m long. This thing is very convenient, and it also has high measurement accuracy.
  • Hacksaw.
  • Chisel.
  • Small paint brush.
  • Scissors, needles, pins for cutting fabric, centimeter.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Iron.

Some craftswomen do not attach much importance to ironing the fabric, and in vain. This operation reduces the thickness of the parts and the stress of the seam. Ironed allowances when sewing do not need to be held by hand, and the line lies much more evenly. Therefore, a seamstress needs an iron.

Step by step instructions for sewing a hammock

It is better to fasten the hanging bed on hooks welded to the poles. If the hammock is hung on trees, you will have to knock bars under the halyard so that it does not slip off the trunk.

Weaving a hammock

Today, few are familiar with knitting fishing nets with a needle and plank. Once this occupation was a good source of income for illegal lone handicraftsmen. Let's see how you can use these tools to weave a hammock with your own hands from a thick cord.

Weaving a hammock is not so difficult

For work you will need:

  1. Thick twine.
  2. Synthetic rope for bindings.
  3. Template board.
  4. Self-made large needle.
  5. Two wooden end planks.
  6. Drill.

The needle is also the spool for the cord. The width of our hammock will be approximately 1 m, length - 2.5 m. We knit a mesh in width, gaining from 20 to 30 loops, depending on the thickness of the twine. The thicker it is, the larger the loops will be, and the less they will be needed.

Weaving a hammock with your own hands is similar to weaving a canvas: after knitting the first row, turn the work inside out towards you and knit the second row. Then again we turn the front side, we knit the third row and so on. Each time we wind so much twine on the needle so that it barely passes into the loop.

When the towline ends, it is set up. Here it is important to calculate the residual length so that the knot falls on the edge of the row, and not in the middle. Otherwise, the nodes will spoil the appearance of the grid, and every time they will crash into the side of a person lying on a hammock.

Weaving the mesh, we take the bars and drill through holes in them according to the number of loops on the short sides of the hammock. From the edges we drill wider holes for the carrier rope. We drag in order each loop of the first row into the corresponding hole. We take the rope prepared for fastenings, stretch its end through the loop and fold it in half. We measure in place how long the rope should be and then cut it off.

We repeat this operation with each loop. In the same way, we attach the second bar to the other end of the grid. Now we collect the free ends of the ropes together, fold them into a ring, wrap them across and tighten them securely. Repeat the same on the other side of the hammock. We pass a holder or a rope folded in half into the formed annular holes - for hanging the hammock on hooks.

Along the entire perimeter of the hammock, through the extreme loops, we pull a thick rope, which will hold the shape of the bed. You can do without strips with holes. We thread strong round bars into the extreme loops, and tie ropes to the corners, on which it will hang. You can take a wicker hammock with you to the forest, to the cottage, to the boat - you will be provided with rest and complete relaxation. published .

» article ««. Where we will tell you how easy and simple, with a minimum of costs and money and time, to make a convenient, simple and useful hammock for children.

A do-it-yourself children's hammock is easy to make - and it's good if children take part in its creation. So, for example, one of the tools is a drill. If you have a hand drill, then it would be better if the children drilled the holes themselves. Or they used a sewing machine ... In general, when something is done for children, it’s worth at least planting them nearby 🙂

So, to make a children's hammock with your own hands you will need:

  1. Oak spike, 1 meter long and 3 cm in diameter (oak is the best choice as it is a very strong wood).
  2. 5 meters of durable polypropylene cord.
  3. 2 meters plain canvas
  4. 2 carabiners (choose them so that they can withstand ten times the weight load - after all, children are children 🙂)
  5. Brush and fabric paint for canvas decor.

The process of making a baby hammock is very simple.

Step one. Fold the fabric in half; cut a corner (this will be the side of the hammock where the cord runs) - using a ruler, draw a line from the bottom corner to a mark about 12 cm from the top edge. Scissors - along the line.

Step two. Bend the top and bottom edges of the fabric by 1.5-2 cm. Stitch.

Step 3. Bend each of the side edges by 4 cm and sew twice (a cord will pass into this groove; a hammock will hang on this groove). For convenience and aesthetics, you can bend the corner as shown in the pictures:

Step 4. Drill 4 holes in the oak plank: 5 and 10 cm from the ends; thickness - in your cord + a couple of millimeters.

Step 5. Take your polypropylene cord; tie a large knot at the end (the end should be melted) at a distance of about 8 cm from the edge; screw the cord into the outer hole. Pass the cord through one side of the hammock. Tie a knot under the bar (about a meter from the first knot). Screw the rope into the hole next to the one already used. Screw the rope into the hole 10 cm from the opposite edge so that about a meter of cord comes down. Tie a knot under the bar. Pass the rope through the other side of the hammock. Screw about 8 cm of rope and tie a knot over the bar. Melt the end of the rope. We advise you not to tighten the knots tightly at first, but first check the structure for balance and, if necessary, move the knots up or down.

Step 6. Fasten the ring at the top; pass the carabiner. In the carabiner - another carabiner (to reduce friction on the rope). And in this carabiner - a loop of cord. That's it, inside - a pillow and you can ride!

Good luck making a children's hammock with your own hands!

P.S. Children are expected to use the hammock like this:

Something hard to believe 🙂

A hammock is a wonderful place to relax in the country. You can sunbathe, relax, read books and even sleep in it. Shops are filled with interesting offers, hammocks are now available for every taste, with and without awnings, with swings, from any material. But you can make a hammock yourself from a photo or a master class.

How to make a hammock with your own hands?

First you need to decide on the shape and material for the hammock. Whichever option is chosen, you need to buy high-quality materials so that the hammock does not quickly become unusable. Hammocks are distinguished by size on:

  • Family (width from 180 cm)
  • For two (width from 160 cm)
  • For one (width from 140 cm)

It will be easier to make a rectangular hanging hammock out of fabric on your own.

Necessary materials:

  • Thick fabric 2 m long, 3 m wide
  • Webbing fabric
  • Clothesline 100 m
  • Denim thread 3 spools
  • Two wooden sticks 90 cm long, with a diameter of 2.5 cm.
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Sewing machine
  • Drill

On wooden sticks on both sides, we drill holes for the rope at a distance of 2.5 cm from the edge. We fold the fabric in three layers, the width of the product should be 1 m. We bend the edges by 2.5 cm and make a basting seam around the perimeter so that a rope can be inserted inside the seam. We sew the main seams on the machine.

From an additional piece of fabric we make straps 15 cm wide, 60 cm long. You will need 4 straps on each side, fold them in half and sew them to the main product. We insert the sticks from both sides into the straps, the hammock is almost ready.

We insert ropes 6 m long along the length of the hammock, pull them along the seam, thread the rope into the hole of the stick, and tie a knot. It remains only to weave the ropes. We cut the rope into 8 segments of three meters and 16 segments of 3.5 m.

The edges of the rope must be singeed with a lighter so that they do not bloom. Segments of three meters will be in the middle between the central straps, and 3.5 meters between the side straps. We fold the ropes in half, fasten them on a stick, tightening them into loops.

The ropes must be woven together with knots, connecting at the end with the side ropes. When everything is intertwined, we make a common knot and weave two pigtails from it in order to further tie the trees with them, on which there will be a hammock.

Using fabric in bright colors, you can make a unique and interesting hammock that will stand out from the crowd. It is better to hang bright hammocks in the shade so that the fabric does not fade from the sun's rays.

Sticks for fastening ropes, it is better to process with a grinder or fine sandpaper. Also, to avoid rubbing the ropes, it is necessary to varnish them.

From the remnants of the fabric, you can sew a bag for small things, which will be attached to the side with clothespins, it is convenient to put water, books or just a phone in it.

Pillows in a hammock can be fixed with ropes so that they do not fall off from the wind.

If you take the fabric shorter, the hammock will sag less and vice versa.

If desired, you can sew a larger hammock using more fabric and sticks of a larger diameter and length.

If it is not possible to fix a hammock on trees, you can independently make a base from a bar. Additionally, you can make a canopy to rest in the shade on hot days.

Of course, wicker hammocks can look more interesting and spectacular, especially if you use ropes of different colors. Weaving a hammock is a very complicated procedure, skill is needed here. If the difficulties do not scare you, you will need to find a weaving pattern and master classes with detailed explanations on the Internet.

When using a hammock in the country, it is worth considering in advance the most convenient mounts. For the winter, the hammock must be removed so that it does not deteriorate from weather conditions. Also, then it remains possible to conveniently install a hammock in different places, when traveling to nature.

home hammock

The apartment can also make a hammock, at least for children. You can sew a hammock according to the previous master class, slightly changing the fasteners and size.

There are two main questions in the apartment: “where to install?” and "how to fix?". You can hang the hammock on the installed fixtures in the ceiling or walls, if you don’t want to spoil the recently made repairs, you can fix the hammock on the children’s wall.

If there was no place in the house, and the children really want to hang a hammock. You can take a long fabric and tie it through the tabletop from the table. It turns out a very successful homemade product that does not require additional efforts and costs. After the game is easily removed and put away in the closet.

DIY hammock photo

A hammock is one of the most popular summer cottages. Lying in a do-it-yourself hammock under the crowns of trees, listening to the peaceful whisper of leaves and the chirping of birds is a real pleasure and a kind of psychotherapy. You will not even notice how loads of problems from your shoulders, troubles and physical fatigue begin to go somewhere. It is not clear how such a seemingly simple structure has such a strong effect on the inner world of a person.

The benefits of relaxing in a hammock in the country

A hammock is a place to relax with a number of positive aspects:

  1. Sometimes hanging a little is better than lying down. In this position, your body relaxes more and, accordingly, sleep becomes stronger.
For rocking a baby, this device is ideal. The material of the hammock wraps the baby like a mother's arms, and the child falls asleep sooner.
  2. A swinging hammock is great for calming and stress relief. In such a bed you are not threatened with nightmares.
  3. This is a great piece of furniture in your garden.

The human spine requires a moderately even and rigid base so as not to bend. Therefore, do not turn a hammock into a permanent place to sleep, otherwise it threatens with unpleasant complications.

What to fasten (trees, poles), how to hang

There are several rules that will help make rest in a homemade hammock as comfortable as possible:

  1. In order to relax on a hanging bed was comfortable and safe, you need to find a reliable support. Two adjacent trees are ideal for this, but this is not always possible. Therefore, the support must be done independently. Alternatively, use poles with a cross section of at least 80 mm. They should be dug into the ground by 80 cm and poured with concrete for strength.
  2. The optimal height for hanging the structure is considered to be a meter and a half. The distance between the support points depends on the length of the future hammock. Bed fabric length + 30 cm deflection = distance between support points.

Important! The higher the hammock is hung, the greater the deflection should be.

Please note the following:

  1. For fastening, a strong rope made of synthetic materials is used, the diameter of which must be at least 8-10 mm. From it you can weave a strong configuration using the macrame method. For greater reliability, it is recommended to use eyelets.
  2. Preference should be given to natural fabrics (tarpaulin, jeans). Synthetic, despite the cheapness, lightness and strength, bring more discomfort, causing increased sweating.
  3. A wicker hammock is best made from cotton cords. Such a bed will be pleasant to the touch, knots will not become an annoying factor.

A wicker hammock can fray in some places. Protect yourself from this by strengthening it in such places with polyethylene tubes.

Types of hammocks

A variety of hammocks allows you to choose the model that is most suitable for you.

This wonderful invention belongs to the Maya Indians, who came up with the idea of sleeping in such a way as to protect themselves from snake bites and insects.

fabric mexican

This is the most classic version. For its manufacture, synthetic fabrics are usually used (although this is not recommended) or braided. It is lightweight and durable. You can always take it with you anywhere, but it will only last a couple of seasons. Such a hammock can replace a light tent.

You can attach such a hammock to natural supports (trees, small buildings) using a regular belt. Installing a stationary hammock is also quite simple: just dig in and concrete the pillars.

You can purchase a ready-made support that does not need to be strengthened. There are even hammocks with a built-in mosquito net. Their cost is a little higher, but you will agree that it is very convenient.

Take such a hammock with you on the road, then you can fully relax in the fresh air

One significant disadvantage of such a device is that children climb on it with difficulty and cannot get out without outside help.

Brazilian on cords

The material for it is used from cotton fabrics or from special threads that are made by splitting Brazil walnut wood.

Such hanging devices have a beautiful handmade fringe. If it is not, then it is believed that the hammock was made for poor people.

A strong frame with additional supports is another feature of this structure (although there is also a suspended version).

Relaxing in such a hammock is a real pleasure.

Most often, the frame is made of metal, which is why it weighs a lot. It is not suitable for travel, but there are also folding designs. Their weight is less, but in quality they are significantly inferior to solid options.

Such a hammock is safe for children and the elderly, it can be placed in absolutely any place.

Colombian

Basically, these hammocks are made by weaving vines using a special technique.

Sometimes, instead of lianas, processed bark of agave or hamak trees is used.

This type is used less and less. It looks like an ordinary volleyball net, which causes a lot of inconvenience. Lying on such a hammock leaves marks on the skin.

Home hammocks: sitting, with a frame, hanging

According to the design features, hammocks are divided into:

  • suspended;
  • frame;
  • hammock chairs.

The first models are the most popular and recognizable. They differ in that they are attached to two adjacent trees or to specially made poles. Finished models are often equipped with additional elements such as a waterproof removable bottom and a mosquito net.

The frame device does not need trees or poles. If the frame is made of wood, then the bed is light and mobile. It can be rearranged anywhere: in the sun, in the shade, under a canopy from the rain. This species is distinguished by a variety of forms.

Often a canopy is included in his device.

Sometimes the dimensions of such a hammock can be quite large.

Hammocks evolved over time into armchairs. Of course, it is sometimes difficult to recognize the original appearance in them; for the most part, they have turned into a swing.

Step-by-step instructions for making a hanging bed

For self-construction of a hammock you will need:

  • decide on a suitable design;
  • choose material;
  • prepare the necessary tools;

If the choice fell on a frame structure, make sure that everything is reliable. Otherwise, if the cross bar breaks, you will be twisted into a cocoon and it will be problematic for you to get out on your own. Materials need to choose durable and reliable, do not skimp. A hammock should last you a long time and be safe. The minimum weight that he must withstand is 200 kg.

The best materials for a hanging bed would be cotton or nylon. They do not irritate the skin and allow air to pass through. The first one is soft and flexible. The second is toughness.

High-quality transverse threads will hold their shape well. A wicker hammock is best made from nylon materials.

For the construction you will need the following tools:

  1. Two slats made of wood.
  2. Thick linen cord.
  3. Rings for fastening.
  4. Rope.
  5. Thick fabric, for example, tarpaulin (2.5x1.8 m).
  6. Set of fastenings for a hammock.

Construction stages

  1. Drill 20-30 holes in the slats, about 5 cm apart.
  2. Open up the fabric.
  3. Make an additional fixation of the shape of the future hanging bed. To do this, sew a rope along the longitudinal edges.
  4. Attach the ropes to the wooden slats and bring them to the fixing point.
  5. Pass the laundry cords through the rings in the base of the bed and through the holes in the wooden planks. Take them to the place where the mount will be. You need to do this on both sides of the hanging bed.
  6. Connect ropes and ropes on each side of the bed and fix them with a special fastener.
  7. Install the finished structure on supports prepared in advance.

Do not forget to retreat 15–20 cm from each of the supports to the hammock. This is necessary for free suspension adjustment and greater reliability.

Video: how to make a do-it-yourself hammock out of fabric

Everyone can make a hanging hammock on their own. There is nothing difficult in the process. Whereas ready-made is quite expensive. Of course, there are budget models, but they will last you a couple of seasons. And it will be doubly pleasant to relax on a do-it-yourself design. Good luck!

What could be better than relaxing in the country on a fine summer day, especially if you know how to make a hammock that will give you a lot of pleasant emotions. For this you will need the following materials:

  • high strength ropes;
  • strong fabric of your favorite color;
  • sewing machine and basic skills.

When sewing a hammock, the mass of people who plan to relax in it is of great importance, and the colors should be selected in accordance with the upholstery of other pieces of furniture in the garden.

Choice of quality and quantity of material

Among the huge selection of durable fabrics, preference should be given to canvases with a width of 3.6 m, although material with a width of 1.4 m can also be an alternative. When choosing a canvas for a hammock, keep in mind that it will be difficult to sew it on a conventional machine.

To determine the length of the hammock, it is necessary to add 60 cm to the height of the tallest member of the family, which will fall on the allowance on both sides for the drawstrings for the ropes. Prepare machine needles No. 90-120, centimeter tape, triangle, sharp scissors and a knife.

Edge alignment

If this is not done, then in the process of work, uneven edges will cause a lot of difficulties, so it is worth aligning them with scissors. On both narrow sides, at a distance of 18 cm from each other, apply markings, according to which the fabric must be cut by 30 cm. These places are intended for making a drawstring for a rope. You have to do it like this:

  • cut the edges from the narrow sides of the material using a triangle;
  • make the necessary markings;
  • making cuts, make sure that they are located along the thread of the fabric.

Material filing

You do not need a huge sewing experience in order to build a hammock, and all operations are easily performed on a household sewing machine. Hem all edges of the material with a 10 mm hem. Since the maximum load will act at the ends of the slots, in these places it is necessary to make additional zigzag stitches with stronger threads.

drawstring

Having processed the edges, proceed to the drawstrings located at the narrower ends of the material and necessary for pulling the rope. Sections with notches are folded into two layers, the first of which is 30 mm, and the second - to the end of the slot. These places are stitched with a double seam: at a distance of 10 mm and 90 mm from the top edge. Be sure to securely fasten the seams.

Loop formation and rope insertion

The rope is threaded through the manufactured drawstrings. In total, you will need 40 meters of rope. Pull the rope through the backstage and leave a margin of 180 cm, and pull 1 meter from each slot.

Since the rope is quite rough, when pulling it, be careful not to break the integrity of the seams. Using a bayonet with two hoses knot, tie the two ends of the rope on one side, pulling 4 loops in the middle slightly forward.

Combining the resulting loops into one

Using a cotton rope, wrap all the resulting loops, gathering them together in your hand. For high-quality winding, you will need about 10 meters of thin rope. Before wrapping the loops, they must be carefully straightened and tied behind the top of the bend. The transverse winding is done only after a longitudinal loop is laid on it and a thin rope is carefully fixed. The longitudinal fixing loop should be approximately 40 cm long. It is also made from a thin rope used for winding. The end of the rope protruding from under the first layer of winding should be 10 cm.

The function of the longitudinal loop is to secure the two ends of the winding with a knot. The last turns of the winding must not be crossed. They must be pressed as tightly and tightly as possible one to the other. Before winding the longitudinal part of the fixing loop, a rope is pulled through it. After winding the entire carrier loop completely, the two ends must be combined and wound together. After making two turns, tie the ends into a strong knot.

fasteners

The hammock can be mounted on thick branches of a tree or, by threading another rope through the loops, tie it directly to the trunk. Also, for hanging, you can screw two reliable hooks on opposite sides, most importantly, make sure that the fastening is secure.

To make it even more pleasant to be in a hammock, you can sew several small soft pillows from the same fabric as the hanging bed, or, on the contrary, take a contrasting material. The filler for pillows is chosen arbitrarily - it can be either fluff or synthetic winterizer or holofiber.

Since the main functional purpose of the hammock is to relax in the summer, it should be placed on a shady, calm area. Only in this case you can relax well, enjoying the creation of your own hands.
