Rotating table for decorating cakes. DIY cake turntable How to make your own cake turntable

A turntable for making confectionery products should always be at hand not only for professional bakers, but also for all those who love to cook for themselves and their loved ones. The rotating surface makes decorating cakes much easier. You no longer have to walk around baking, because it will rotate freely around its axis.

What materials and tools will be required to create a table

The turntable can be bought at the store, but it is much more convenient to make this product with your own hands. In the process of self-assembly, it becomes possible to make an individual drawing, as well as select suitable materials. In addition, at a price such a product will be much cheaper than purchased. The item can be made using improvised materials and tools:

  • wood base;
  • Bearings (2 pcs.);
  • Liquid nails or self-tapping screws;
  • Plastic or iron tube;
  • Metal circle;
  • Thin sheet of plastic.

As a wooden blank, you can use any materials. In order to save money, you can also use the door from an old cabinet. Each of them has certain advantages. For example, wood is more environmentally friendly and safe, and MDF is very easy to work with. Chipboard is an attractive material in terms of price.

Assembly step by step

How to make a cake turntable? The process of assembling a rotating stand is not particularly difficult, but requires some physical effort. First you need to prepare the necessary materials and make a drawing. Follow a certain sequence of actions:

  1. A do-it-yourself rotating turntable for a cake is done like this. Two circles must be cut from a chipboard or other material blank. You can choose the parameters as you wish. In this example, it is 20 cm.
  2. In one of the circles in the center we make a recess in which the bearing will be installed. It is this detail that will give rotation to the whole structure.
  3. Using liquid nails or self-tapping screws, we attach the second element, which does not have a notch, to the first. Due to the second circle, the device will firmly adhere to the surface.
  4. Next, we insert a tube into the bearing that will connect the lower and upper base. The length of the tube can vary from 15 to 18 cm. This is the most preferred size, neither short nor long.
  5. It is better to make a stand for a confectionery product from a metal circle with a diameter of 30-40 cm. It is attached to the top of the tube using a welding machine.
  6. Plywood or chipboard is placed on the metal surface using self-tapping screws.

ATTENTION! In most cases, not all people have the opportunity to make a full-fledged welding. In this case, cold welding comes to the rescue, resembling plasticine in texture.

The nuances of making a rotating cake table

In order for the assembly process to go smoothly, you need to know some of the nuances. For example, it is better to take a double pressed bearing. Otherwise, two bearings are required, one of which must fit inside the other. One element can be driven into another with nails. It is also necessary to ensure that the plastic tube enters the bearing as accurately as possible. It is important that there is a strong fixation and that it does not hang out. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to use such a device.

IMPORTANT! The resulting product can be given an attractive appearance. It must be pasted over with a film or a plastic base. This will also prolong the life of the appliance and make it easier to maintain.

The rotary rotating little table provides convenient access to a confectionery product from all directions at the same time. You can make such a stand with your own hands, especially since there are materials for its manufacture in every home.

Do-it-yourself cake turntable is needed not only for real confectioners. This is a necessary item for those who cook for pleasure. Housewives who bake mastic-coated cakes cannot do without such a design. The main purpose of a turntable is to facilitate the process of decorating a cake. That is, you do not have to beat around and around the finished product, it will be enough just to decorate a rotating cake. Baking spins around its axis, and you only need to have time to decorate it.

How to make a turntable? To get started, prepare all the necessary materials. You will need two bearings, which are available from auto parts stores.

Please note that there are double, compressed bearings. The second option is preferable because you will have to tinker less.

The turntable also needs a wooden plate. You can stock up on the door from the kitchen set. In addition, you will need hard nails, self-tapping screws, plastic tubes, a metal circle, thin plastic, plywood.

Work process

Scheme Drawing

Making a turntable with your own hands is quite simple. First of all, you will need to draw a quality drawing. After that, we begin to work according to the following scheme. If you have two bearings, and not one pressed one, then we drive an element of a smaller diameter into a larger one using nails. It is necessary to cut out two circles with a diameter of 20 cm in a wooden plate. In one of the circles, a hole is cut in the middle into which the bearing is hammered. In this case, the two parts are twisted and fixed with screws. The bearing is placed in the center.

The do-it-yourself table is equipped with plastic tubes. The tube should connect the upper and lower parts. Consider this point when you make a drawing for the turntable. In this case, the tube must fit exactly into the bearing. The ideal length is 15 cm. Such a tube will not be too short or long, so you do not have to bend down to decorate the product.

The top is made of metal. In order for it to spin, pay special attention to its diameter. On average, the diameter of a metal circle should range from 30 to 40 cm. If you have the opportunity to weld the elements, it will only be wonderful. For those who are deprived of such an opportunity, cold welding was invented, which looks like plasticine. A cake turntable also requires circles cut out of plywood. The rotating part is mounted on the pipe, and the elements are fastened with self-tapping screws.

There is such a thing as a turntable. Some use it for presentations, any souvenirs. Confectioners are used to rotate the cake during the manufacture of the latter. I decided to make a turntable with my own hands to show my homemade products, such as in "3D". The motor from the microwave oven was taken as the basis. Makes almost 3 revolutions per minute. It is powered by a 220V household network.

For the design of the table we need:
- a circle of plywood;
- plywood rectangle;
- switch;
- aluminum corner, for mounting the switch;
- network cord;
- screws 10 pieces;
- Microwave motor.

The first step in our base is making a cut under the motor. It turned out somehow crooked, but that’s not the point, it will be closed by the table itself. Base dimensions 250mm*100mm, plywood thickness 18mm.

We drill a hole with a diameter of 6 mm in the pancake of the table, the axis of the motor is 6.5 mm. The hole is not through, but exactly the length of the axis of the motor (about 10 mm). Trying on. Comes in tight. If you drill the same diameter as the axis of the motor, then the table pancake will hang out. It will have to be glued, and this is additional time for making homemade products.

Be sure to look at the motor. They are not 220V. I got 21V. In the latter case, a transformer is needed, it can be powered from the control board of the same furnace.

Since I have plywood BU, I decided to paint the pancake and the base of the table from a spray can. Matte black paint was available. Everything dried quickly. Along the way, I drilled a hole for threading wires.

After the paint has dried, we fasten the motor to its permanent place. I took the screws from an old printer. Very successful because of the wide hat.

We pass the wires into the hole from the side of the bottom of the structure. We unsolder the switch, I have a toggle switch TP 1-2. We attach the corner to the base. We fasten the toggle switch to the corner. If there is no corner like mine and another switch, then you can make something for your needs.

So that the design does not go around the table, I decided to install rubber legs. I used medicine caps as legs. In general, it is very convenient to use such legs in the manufacture of cases, homemade products. Rubber is very flexible. I screwed them onto all the same screws from the printer.

Pancake table in my case 230 mm. The thickness is the same 18 mm as at the base. Fits perfectly for my needs. This is the table I got. I repeat, it makes almost 3 revolutions per minute.

It is very convenient for confectioners involved in the manufacture of cakes to use various kinds of devices that facilitate the process of decorating the finished product. Fortunately, today stores offer a wide range of such inventory. One such device is the turntable. True, the cost of such a table is rather big, and it is often easier and more profitable to try to make a turntable for a cake with your own hands.

What is convenient?

Such a table is useful not only for professional pastry chefs. It will be very useful for those who like to cook for their own pleasure, as well as cooks taking their first steps. By the way, such a table will come in handy for housewives decorating cakes with mastic. It looks like a circle-pedestal on a leg that rotates around its axis. The main goal is to make the work of the confectioner as ergonomic and convenient as possible, to simplify the task of decorating the finished cake. The cake is placed on a stand, and by rotating it, you can easily cover it with mastic, decorate it with figures, inscriptions and other decor. At the same time, there is no need to walk around it, the confectionery will rotate on a stand, and the hostess will have access to any place on the cake.

What will be required

In order to make a turntable for a cake with your own hands, you will need:

  • Bearings — 2 pcs. It is better to use double pressed bearings.
  • Wooden blank for a circle. This can be a door from old furniture or any chipboard material available.
  • Nails.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Tube (made of plastic or iron).
  • Iron circle (metal).
  • Plywood sheet.
  • Plastic or decorative self-adhesive film.

How to make a turntable with your own hands

This process is not too complicated, but requires male participation. To begin with, it is worth drawing a drawing of the future stand and preparing all the necessary elements.

If the bearing is not double, then two will be required, and one must fit into the other.

  1. We push the smaller bearing into the larger one using nails.
  2. From a chipboard blank (or an old door), we cut out two circles with an electric jigsaw, equal to a diameter of 20 cm.
  3. In one of them, a hole should be made in the center into which the bearing is placed. It is this technique that will ensure the turning of the entire mechanism.
  4. We attach the second circle with self-tapping screws (you can use liquid nails) to the first.
  5. The bottom circle, which does not have a hole, will stand directly on the table.
  6. Then a plastic tube is inserted into the bearing (you can use an iron one, if available). It will connect the base and the top - the pedestal for the cake. The tube must fit very precisely into the bearing so that it does not hang out, otherwise it will be difficult to use the turntable. The optimal length of the connecting tube is 15-18 cm. In this case, it will not be too short and too long, it will be as convenient as possible to use the device.
  7. The top (the stand itself on which the cake is placed) is best made of metal. You will need a metal circle, which is 30-40 centimeters in diameter. It is attached to the top of the tube (metal or plastic) by welding. Of course, not everyone has a welding machine and a person who knows how to do it at home. In this case, you can use cold welding, reminiscent of plasticine.
  8. Plywood or chipboard is attached to the top of the metal circle, equal in diameter to the metal circle, using liquid nails or self-tapping screws.

Now the do-it-yourself cake turntable is almost ready. It remains only to add aesthetics to it. To do this, the top is pasted over with wallpaper-film or a plastic round base. This will give the fixture a finished look and facilitate maintenance.

As you can see, if you want to make a turntable for a cake with your own hands, it’s not so difficult. A set of materials for its assembly can be found in almost any home, and the work process itself is not so complicated.

What can replace the cake turntable

What is the way out for those who do not have a turntable? A very simple and affordable solution is also available in almost any home. You can use a microwave turntable. Almost all models are arranged in such a way that they have a glass plate and a round stand at the bottom. It is necessary to get a plate and a circle under it from the microwave. If it is too smooth, you can put paper (paper towel) down to reduce slip. Thus, you can decorate the cake by smoothly rotating it around the axis. Also, a glass plate will not spoil the view when serving a finished decorated product.

Turntable

Built a revolving table. Suitable for decorating cakes and for modeling (including dolls - heads). She blinded him, as they say, from what was. But it spins excellently (so far without a cake), at least play in the Field of Miracles or open a casino! :)

What I needed:

1) a hot stand (a round rug with a ball pattern - bought at a sale in the Metro store for 3 UAH), diameter 38 cm;

2) a piece of fiberboard (from it we cut a circle with a diameter of 1 cm less than a hot stand -37 cm);

3) a wheel for furniture on bearings and fastened with a screw and a nut (to make it easier to disassemble) - I bought it on the market for 12 UAH;

4) 4 screws, 4 nuts and 4 washers , so the hat should be flat);

5) 4 self-tapping screws 5-6 cm long;

7) a drill and a drill for self-tapping screws and a large-diameter drill to deepen the hole for sinking the screw head;

8) a block of wood about 60 cm long (I don’t know the exact size, it’s better to choose a specific wheel so that it is a little wider than the distance between the wings of the wheel base (to fit tightly)

9) sandpaper in order to clean the edges of fiberboard;

10) screw and wing nut, size 6, suitable length (cm 5-6);

11) glue "Dragon"

First of all, you need to cut a circle of the desired diameter from the fiberboard. Make 4 holes from the center (attaching the base of the wheel). The edges of the fiberboard need to be sanded and glued with tape.

Then we put the base of the wheel on a piece of timber (we grind it a little so that it fits perfectly), mark and drill a hole for the mount.

We attach the base of the wheel to our countertop.

We attach additional parts from the timber to the wooden bar (so that the table is stable), fasten it to self-tapping screws.

We connect the upper part to the base and fasten it.

On the countertop we apply spiral glue "Dragon" from the edges to the center. We apply our rug - a hot stand and separate it again, wait a couple of minutes for the glue to thicken and again apply it to the countertop. Turn the table top down and, gently pressing, iron the back side of the tabletop with your hand so that the glue takes well.

Everything is ready!

If there is a desire, then the leg of the table can be somehow decorated - painted, decoupled, etc.
